I have a question about the 3G network shutting down. My device says it has an LTE connection but, I've been getting calls and text messages from Telus saying that my device will no longer work after the shutdown. I spoke with someone from Telus over the phone. I asked if public mobile shutting down, and do I have to switch to Telus to continue service? What they said was unclear so I'm looking for a better answer.
Can someone explain to me why I would need to switch to Telus to avoid loss of service when my phone says it has an LTE connection?

Even though the device connects to LTE for data, it may not be supported to use LTE/VoLTE for phone calls. Check if the phone is on the supported list or if the indicator switches from LTE to 3G/HSPA when you make a call. The VoLTE support is what they are likely contacting you about. There are apparently a few devices that support VoLTE when used with Telus proper, but not on Public and similar providers. You might have one of those edge cases. The choice is whether to switch providers or switch phones and whether you wait till the bitter end to see if anything changes.

once 3G has been retired, you'll need a Volte enabled cell that Public Mobile has recognized...not all are. Use the link supplied by @slusagm to do a compatibility test. If not, you'll need to get a newer cellphone. Most iPhones after i9 are on the Public Mobile good list.
What area are you in as 3G is still working in lotsa areas...for now.

@slusagm It will be Nice if PM brings back a list of 'compatible' phones. At least from big names like Samsung, Apple, etc.

3G is not dead yet, but depends on your phone, you might still need 3G for voice
