3G vs 4G

Have been increasingly frustrated with the loading speed on data lately. I had a 3G plan that was dirt cheap so didn't realize they introduced 4G and 5G plans! Has anyone experienced extremely slow loading on their 4G plans? Deciding if I want to stay with Public or go somewhere more mainstream for the same price but possibly better loading.

VPNs for getting around country blocks make your data faste everwherer? But you have the slowest data on 5G phone? Not many useing 3G so open road.

@Lawrenme

extremely slow loading on 4G? you sure your network mode is 4G?  Start with Reset all networks

@SlickToxic I personally wouldn't rely on a 0.5Mbps connection for a video call. It would be good to send messages, maybe the odd photo, slowly browse a webpage etc; but video, I wouldn't count on it.

My error.

Thanks

5G plans have unlimited data after HiSpeed used.

The unlimited data speeds of 512kbs are useful for low qualty video chat or sd video? Upload speeds on unlimited unsuited for video chatting?

@SlickToxic There are no plans with unlimited speeds, there are plans with unlimited data buckets.

You'll still get good results on the 4G network with a 5G plan. Here is a speed test I did yesterday on the 4G network with a 5G plan.

Wht could speeds be with Public 5G plan on 4G phone from Rogers?

Can sim also be used in modem like Rogers allows?

what are the unlimited speeds good for?

Thnx

@Lawrenme , as long as you don't try using the 3G network for data, performance will probably be okay.  The 3G network doesn't have any throttling, however the network appears to have been sacrificed for 5G expansion.

The 3G network speeds really aren't all that much better than 3Mbps any longer.  I used to routinely top 30Mbps while on a 3G plan, but while I'm now on a 5G plan, the speeds on the 3G network are often down to around 6 or 7Mbps.   Sometimes, the 3G network doesn't work at all for data, but at the same location, LTE and 5G networks work fine.

I ditched my 3G plan last summer as it had become unbearable for me as well. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the 4G plans. 5G is not necessary in my opinion; especially if you're coming from a 3G plan.

I just did a test on my 3G line. I got the following.

3.28Mbps down

2.71Mbps up

Here's the odd part. I actually got faster speeds when my VPN was turned on. Go figure.

When I switched from 3G to 4G plans, I did notice a definite speed increase and no issues with loading in my area. There are a few attractive higher priced promo plans available presently.  $39 for 20GB 4G speed data. $45 for 30GB 5G speed data.

If you are a legacy old rewards customers, you should have a decent monthly discount.  So whatever plan that you choose, you would get a decent deal.
