3G Network shutting down

I have the same issue with a samsung s20 5g and still get this message. I'm wondering could it be due to an old sim card? I've been with public for years.

Thanks everyone! I borrowed a usable phone until I get a new one. I had success when PM sold pre-owned. I will try open box and Mobile Klinic.

The way that Samsung labels their model is by years. Your Samsung S20 was introduced in 2020.

If you are looking at the Samsung S24 (2024) or S25 (2025) should be fine.

I would suggest you look at Mobile Klinik stores (Telus refurbished devices).
I purchase my devices from Openbox.ca online with stores in BC and Alta. They sell new, open box and refurbished devices.

@Sunnygal  yes, S21 and newer will work.  But yes, it will be better (both with network and device OS updates) to get an S24 and above

For pre-owned, remember to buy it from trusted sources.  I would avoid Marketplaces (like BestBuy/Walmart/ FB Marketplaces).  While not all phones from there are bad, some got blacklisted phones and sometimes hard to get the money back

@Sunnygal

are you in Manitoba?  PM will retire the 3G network in Manitoba starting April 2026.  The rest of Canada will still has 3G network for a bit longer, probably another 18+ months

Although S20 5G has VoLTE itself, itis not a phone that will work with PM's VoLTE, you need at least an S21 series to use VoLTE on PM's LTE/5G network for voice calls once the 3G network is decommissioned.

FYI, to confirm if your phone can use VoLTE on PM's network, please use the IMEI checker here:
