I'm looking for a good VoIP app to use in conjunction with a data only plan. I plan to port an existing number onto one of these VoIP services. I know that there's a bunch out there - Fongo, TextNow, TextPlus, etc. Any recommnendations on which one would provide the best value, quality, etc.?

I've got a voip.ms account that I would love to use all the time, however the SMS isn't fully functional. It does have an SMS web interface, but that's too clunky for me at this time.
I've got an android phone, so I've setup the voip.ms account on the native dialer, alongside the regular settings for Public Mobile.
By default I use the PM settings for phone calls, but my voip.ms will ring in when someone calls, and I can select that account if I want to make a long distance call.

Google Hangouts. My sister uses Fongo with a data only plan and purchases their texting plan.

Try Fongo. Gives you real local number. Good voice quality. Good luck.
