Put Your Creative Hat On, It’s Make Up Your Own Holiday Day!

Hey Community,

Today you get to be the CEO of Holiday Creation. Think of anything worthy of celebrating, pick a day on the calendar, and boom, you’ve done it! Here are some holidays we made up to help get your creative juices flowing:

1. Catch Up On Your Shows Day

Still haven’t caught up on the latest season of that show you’re obsessed with? We think a national holiday is in order. On the last Wednesday of August, everyone should get the day off from work to do nothing but sit on the couch and satisfy their cravings by soaking up those final few episodes.

2. White Elephant Delivery Day

It’s like a White Elephant, but for take-out food! Get a group of friends or family together and pull names from a hat. On December 21st, order delivery to that person’s house from a restaurant of your choosing. It would be so much fun opening a box to reveal your mystery dinner!

3. Cringe at Your Old Posts Day

On this day we should look back at our social media posts from ten years ago and say, “Why in the world did I ever put that online?” Sharing old posts is highly encouraged so we can all bask in the cringe-worthy tweets and statuses of old.

Those are just a few of our ideas, but we’d love to hear what you can come up with! Comment below by 12:00 PM ET on April 2, 2019 and tell us what you think Canada’s next new holiday should be and we’ll randomly 3 winners who will receive a one time $50 Public Mobile account credit. Who knows, maybe your holiday will catch on and be Canada’s next big thing! Contest runs March 26 to April 2, 2019. Read Contest Rules before entering.

-Public Mobile Community Team

Hi,

Just an update for those wondering about the prize awarding process.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn by email that I was amongst the winners of this draw. I seriously did not expect it and might have totally missed it had I not seen my email in time. Although, a two days reply period seems pretty fair to me. The email included a simple four page PDF form where we had to fill with some basic information (name, address, phone, email, etc.), a simple mathematical question and finally date and signature. The last three pages had the contest rules (exactly the same as the contest rules in the announcement post).

Just yesterday, I saw that the prize credit had already been processed a few days ago into my account (screenshot taken on 2019-04-13).Contest Reward (close-up)Contest Reward (close-up)

Contest Reward (from Transaction History page)Contest Reward (from Transaction History page)

This credit would go toward paying about 2 months of my current 90 days plan (including loyalty, autopay, refer-a-friend and community rewards).

Absentmindedly, I had had already prepaid my plan about 3-4 weeks ago. However, with this unexpected prize, I am tempted to switch to a more expensive plan just for the heck of it.

Many thanks to Brooke and the Public Mobile Community team for making these contests/draws happen every so often and taking care of the community here.

I think I have taken part in most of the draws since the ThriftShop Day contest and this is my first time actually winning.

Again, thanks a bunch.

Ciph

I wouldn't call them competitions per se. More like entries for a random draw.

There was no update on whether ty_89 received it so I wonder if they would give it to you in the end anyway. I guess giving ty_89 the same amount of time to respond would be fair though.

Yay for ty_89.

I was just experimenting with other carriers, I was going to change to Bell, as they offered me unlimited talk and text canada wide for $10, but it ended up only being for the first 6 months and subject to all sorts of conditions, i'm lucky i stayed with public through the process because it didn't work out. Public is beggining to grow on me. Community and referal rewards are pretty great. I just hope i still try to claim this prize. I wish they would text you to tell you that you won instead of email you.

These contests are fun and are also to encourage participation in the community.  With the hopes that you will continue to visit and help out.  Even with email notification turned off you would get the notification at the top of the page with a red dot with a number by the bell or envelope

Hmm...what's with winning contestants not responding?  I happen to know that
new PM community acccounts have e-mail notices for private messages turned on by default, since at least mid-2017. Have they deliberately turned off their e-mail notifications for private messages?  Well, their loss, in that case.

As a somewhat new client of PM, you can receive quite a lot of email to the point of annoyance. As email notification is on for everything, replies to new posts, Bravo's, badges, tags, ... my phone went off constantly.  My immediate action was to disable email notifications.  So, I can understand why some people would remove notification.  Alternatively, they might not have the account link to their phone and/or seldomly check the account.

Hello sorry I got the email, but it was late I did send the release form back. I thought this competitions were automatic, as anything posted online is subject to be shared. I also feel like two days is not alot of time to respond. I do think the emails get lost in the large abundance also.

People prioritize DMs over @s, and I think keeping e-mail notifications for DMs (and important messages being sent by DMs) should be enough.

Personally, I'd recommend setting it so emails are also sent for "Posts I'm @mentioned in", because such mentions could turn out to be something interesting or important, yet is still a relatively rare occurrence.  (see third link I listed above)

Yes, I noticed quite important that setting might be. Particularly when trying to reach someone or responding to a post

@Tiprix

Members can pick and choose which types of activity will result in e-mail notices, so if limiting volume is the concern, members can set it to only send notices for private messages, which should be a rare occurrence. Probably a majority of people who sign up for a community account are doing so for the purpose of obtaining assistance, which is why those e-mails are on by default. Since private messages are the preferred mode of communication with PM moderators, turning off e-mails for that could affect the timeliness of support received.

If one wishes to only get e-mails for private messages, here's how:

(Note: The following links are only accessible when logged in to community.  Remember to click "Save" after making changes on any of those pages.)

1) Make sure the box is checked ON (checkmarked) for email notices for private messages here:
https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/user/myprofilepage/tab/user-preferences:private-messe...

2) Make sure the box is checked OFF (blank) for "Don't send me any community emails" here:
https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/user/myprofilepage/tab/personal-profile:email

3) All other settings should be checked OFF (blank) or set to "never" here:
