What is the difference, if any, between the Canada/US 50 gb 5g plan for $34 and the Canada only 50 gb 5g plan for the same price? Why would someone choose the Canada only plan?

I had a message from 611 asking me to visit self serve (link provided in text) to make an update to ensure uninterrupted service. Is this legit? I logged into my account and don't see anything there about updates.
