Non-Stop Scam/Fraud Calls

nezahkard

Simply put: is there anything I can do about this? Today alone I've had 12 calls from various 647 spoofed calls in the span of 6 hours. I am at my limit at this point!

I'm using a Samsung S10+, and I've turned on spam filter, Hiya, and everything else I could possibly do and they are still coming in like clockwork. It's driving me mad!

Just now I have described in another topic that how to delist your number from repeat calling in short period of time.

Spammer's phone dialer on the computer is stuck on your number.

when you pick the phone up and nobody speaks then press ############# numerous times until phone get disconnected. That will stop from re-dialing and bounce your number from their dialing list.

Keep in mind that blocked calls are forwarded to the the "rejected" conditional call forward set by *67* as described above. Those blocked callers were further annoying my by leaving junk voicemails I then had to dialin to delete.  By redirecting *67 conditional call forwarding to a dead end, that was stopped....

On the other hand, I don't really worry about blocking the calls anymore, I just answer them since even with the $15 plan I have unlimited incoming minutes, so who cares... if you get a human, tell them to hang on a sec, then put the phone down  🙂   Waste their time!

I've yet to be too quick to block someone that it turns out I know, so there's that 🤷

But you could set DND to contacts only so they'll ring through but these spams won't in the meantime, while still blocking in the process

I love the idea of the pressing a number to verify that you're a real caller that koodo has. Would be a great  feature here at PM

Telus's "higher tiers" Telus Mobility (and landline) and Koodo offer a feature "call control" which basically presents a menu where new & unknown callers have to press a number to get through before it actually rings a phone. Public Mobile, being Telus's lowest tier, lacks this feature. This basically 100% stops all automated / junk / robocalls from reaching you since that is too sophisticated for them!

One option I have experimented with is cusomizing the conditional call forward  setting for blocked or declined calls. If you see an incoming caller ID that you are sure is a junk call, you can direct those to a dead-end instead of your voicemail to prevent having to delete useless voicemails as well.

For example, set the following so that blocked calls, or calls that you manually reject are sent to an announcement that says "At the customers request, the number you have dialed is equipped for outgoing calls only"

Set: *67*3063370005#

Reset to default voicemail: ##67#

Other options: 0000000000, or any usa number like 8080000000 will just result in an error to the caller, which might help flag your number as invalid in their system.

I wrote about this topic in the past here: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Using-Your-Service/Fun-with-Conditional-Call-forwardi...

More involved but you could sign up for a service like voip.ms and build your own IVR to require callers to press a digit to "get through", and forward certain, or all calls to that...

You can also direct junk calls to Lenny - the telemarketers worst nightmare, I setup a Canadian access number here: 🙂 https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Using-Your-Service/Lenny-the-Telemarketers-worst-nigh...

It's a fun game.. like spam email, they will never go away..   😞

try not to answer any unknown calls.  Usually it will die down after awhile.

btw, are those number really like your current number? like only the last 4 digits are different?  if so, 90% of those are spam and you can safely ignore.

@nezahkard : Just keep on blocking. I used to get quite a few on a prior number and just kept blocking. They eventually dwindled down to nothing. Then I changed my number to a never used number when I moved.

Got any tutorials for this? The only one I can find is just using DND, but I don't want to silence my whole phone just to avoid these pricks.

I work for a school board, and so having this number is kinda important since I can't change my on-call number easily. I've had spam in the past, but it feels like they are trying to make up for a year of silence or something since I haven't got them in forever. Holy crap...

Unfortunately, these callers could really call any number. Samsung devices usually have a setting to send all calls that aren't saved in your contact list directly to voicemail. That won't prevent them for leaving you messages, but at least your phone won't ring then call.

Keep blocking them. If you are not overly attached to your number you can change it in self service.
