I had the same thing. I've had a second account for a while. Then the December contests came along with the usual one entry per person and set up another account here and logged in to enter.and found a pm from someone I'd never seen here and who never posts asking if I'd activated yet. I knew immediately where he was going and so said no. Bam. One referral code later... I still haven't "read" the pm.
I just think that's unsolicited rude and uncouth. I'm also aware that people who sign up here asking their research questions get referral codes. Again...unsolicited rude and uncouth.
Sure...I'll pounce on those rare requests for a code if I happen to have refreshed to it, but not unsolicited.
