Hi been in the forums for a little,  and was wondering how efficient it is to actually tag a mod, vs telling a someone to private message a mod.  I noticed when a mod is tagged in the forums that they will typically reply to that forum  "Please Private message me with your account details".  this back and forth takes needless time.

Would it not be more benificial to instruct people to private message a mod directly with the relivant information ?  this way mods do not have to reply to the forum and ask for info?  that 5-10 minutes could be used better.

 The reason they're asked to PM is because of personal details. As has been noted during this chaos, sometimes private messages get missed.

The best route is to tag a mod and have them ask for a private message. They will specifically be looking for that private message now. Even directing someone to privately message a mod before they're tagged doesn't ensure they'll get assistance right now.

In "normal" times tagging is preferred; currently private messaging because it saves one step.

They tell people to PM them with issues and will help based on first in first out.

But from the threads I have read, they respond faster to threads they are tagged in.

there really is no proper structure they are following

@Vickel,

There is a process. Start a thread, tag a mod and wait for further instruction. That's always been the case. The only reason people are being asked to PM a mod first right now is to cover all avenues. Personally, it's caused more issues than not.
