Status: Not for us

Hi PM,

I would like to transfer my wife's cell phone to PM from Fido. She only needs data and text. But sometimes she also needs voice minites just in case but not every month.

I went through all the plans and if I select no voice it seems that there is not add-on for me to choose for example 1000 mins which never expire.

What if PM offers more voice choice? I'm very glad to pay 1000mins add-on for $40-50.

Thanks.

Hi Bigmac,

First off thank you for taking the time to submit your idea.  The success of Public Mobile relies on our community and its active member’s participation.

I do think I have great news for what you are asking for unless I've misunderstood your idea.

We do have never expiring add-ons (unless you completely used it up or let your account expire) voice add ons.  While they are positioned to US and International they also work for Canadian calling.

So for your example of 1000 mins it would cost you $40 (200mins pack 5 times x $8) – on the bonus side you can buy it $8 at a time rather than drop $40 up front.

See below description you can find on our plans page under add-ons:

Add 200 MB of data for $10, 1GB of data for $30, 200 mins U.S. long distance for $8 or 400 mins of international long distance for $15. Any remaining data or minutes in your Add-on will roll over to your next cycle.

Yep, we can probably tweak the language to be clearer with future BigMac's.  Thanks for catching that one.

Lastly, do you really enjoy BigMacs or are you more of a closet Whopper person?

Personally I'm a sucker for the Monopoly game at McDonalds.  Anyone want to trade me boardwalk or whatever it is in the Canadian version this year 😆

Hi @Bigmac,

I second that notion of being able to add minutes while selecting No Talk. I'd also like to be able to add text while selecting No Text and possibly the same for data.

Ideally, my preferred plan would be add-ons only.

I'd purchase the 90 day base plan with No Talk, No Text, and No Data. So my base price would be $25 every 90 days (or $8.34/month)

Then I'd add on:

-400 mins International/US Long distance for $15 that roll over and never expire, and unbeknownst to most can be used for Canada wide calling too;

-1 GB Data for $30 that rolls over and never expires

- and a text add on (which doesn't exist (...yet? but I'm hopeful) but probably a $10 to $20 texting option so long as it rolls over and never expires.

That way every 90 days I'm paying $25, and then I'm topping up the talk/text/data as needed or as my usage patterns change.

Should I start this up as a new idea: Add-on only plans?

Hi @Dave_M,

I don't know if what you're suggesting is entirely accurate and/or would meet @Bigmac's needs. This is why -

From the PM Plans page:

"Add-ons are available for use only with an active plan. Long distance add-ons require a monthly talk feature on the rate plan."

Hi @Dave_M

Thank you for your comments. Sorry for my poor English, first.

I have no idea that US/international voice add-on can also be used for canada voice calling. (Maybe I just noticed the NAME and didn't see the details...) . Thank you and that's really a good point. But if I select no-talk, can I still use these add-on? ..

Why "Bigmac", I don't have McDonalds very often.

Reason1: I graduated from McMaster

Reason2: My name is Mike

Reason3: I was order than my classmates in University, then they called me "Big M"

...

Thank you. 🙂

Hi @7789849803,

Yes, that's why I was asking... Thank you for further explaining. Man LOL

Hi @Bigmac,

Just to be clear, my response was purely hypothetical as the 'add-on only' plan is not possible.

You understand correctly, only once you have a talk plan (any talk plan) can you utilize add-on talk items such as the long distance packages.

Cheers,

Mike

@sixthlawson, very good point. It's good for you to post a new idea. Your ideas cover more situation rather than my personal case.  Thank you.

Hi Mike @sixthlawson,

We need more choices and more personal plan, that why we switch to PM, right?

I don' think what you said is impossible. I trust the power of PM community members and I trust PM wants to become a reall user-centered company. 🙂

Let's see. 🙂

Have a great evening - 20+ degrees outside...

@sixthlawson this is the best idea I have seen in the labs so far!

Did you ever submitted that one to the Lab?

Thank you,

JL.
