I remember reading in the community about this issue but was unable to find it again.

Just a question, what does TELUS (the owner of Public Mobile, Telus and Koodo) have to fear by blocking text messages being sent from Twitter?

People will not always be in an area that has data, and emergency messages that are sent from Government Agencies that are on Twitter have a better chance of reaching more people.

If Telus is not afraid, then how about allowing text messages from Twitter since Bell and WIND allow this.

PM does support Short Codes Twitter, FB, TTC and a whole bunch more, more than what average Prepaid carriers permit

IF PM supports short codes, then why will the ones from Twitter using SMS not work? There is NO option to add text messages from those you follow on Twitter. Bell and WIND allowed this BUT Telus does not. (PM is owned by Telus)

Hey @memetis,

Thanks for your idea! We agree that members should be able to receive emergency messages so we did some research to see what work and technology was involved, and contacted Twitter as well.

Long story short: Twitter frequently changes the numbers they use to text customers messages like the message you mentioned in your post. Since they change the number quite often for their own security purposes, we would need to update the list of numbers that needs to be zero-rated on a weekly basis. This would be a manual and cumbersome process, where we would have to correspond with Twitter on a regular basis to get their most recent list. For that reason, we won't be zero-rating Twitter numbers at this time. Hope you understand.

Alternatively, members that have this issue, should take advantage of our new plans which now offer global text messaging! That way they can receive messages from all over the world while they are in Canada.

I am moving two numbers from Public Mobile due to the SMS issue to an MVNO that has NO issues with short codes. So if they do NOT have issues, why is Telus/Public Mobile/Koodo having issues?
