Dear PublicMobile,
One of my biggest bill of the year is my phone bill. I use Tangerine Credit Card which I selected "Bill Payments" as one of my 2% categories. After my first bill, I realize that PM payment is not being recognized as "Bill Payment" in CC code. Would be great if PM and work on and support this. I used to be with VirginMobile, their bill is being reconized as "Bill Payment" on Tangerine CC.

Regards,
Jack L.

Hi @JackL,

I think you would have to contact Tangerine credit card support to ask them to fix the categorization on their end--I don't believe Public Mobile has anything to do with that.  There is almost always a customer service phone number on the back of the credit card.  I'd start there.

@srlawren according to my research, Tangerine uses Merchant Category Codes (MCC) to identify categories. For example, MCC range 5812 to 5814 are restaurants, MCC 5541 and 5542 are gas. This is defined by the owner, not Tangerine. So I believe this is something that PM should verify, not Tangerine.

@JackL my apologies, I didn't realize the mercant sets their own classification.

@srlawren dont worry about it. And no need to apologize. Discussing and learning from each other is good. 🙂

I thought the Tangerine category was "recurring bill payments" - and prepaid cell phone providers wouldn't generally fall into that category.  Despite being a regularly timed payment, it's not really the same type of recurring bill payment as say, your internet or cable bill.

@WearySky Hmmm interesting. Personally I see it no different than other provider like Virgin or Roger etc. They still charge you a month a head of time, then they would refund you if you decide to cancel your service. PM charges a month, or 90 days a head of time, except no refund. But still brining up this idead see if there is any chance for this to be worked out.
