Status: Not for us

I was thinking of this: What if PM created a Special Sim that determined if a Handset was Comparable, NOT an actual Sim for Service necessarily, but to determine if a Handset is 110% Compatible.

This Test Sim would Not be Disposable, but reusable. Handy Tool to determine handset compatibility due to IMEI reader Impractability.

Something to think about, If This Concept Exists at all

I'm happy to support this idea as it does what I would like better! 🙂

But I do wonder if PM SIM cards connect to the network but provide no service until activated. If so, potential customers could simply put one in their phone to check. Since SIMs are free to the customer, the only loss is to PM for SIMs that are never activated.

Hi. Thanks. The Sim Handset Tester I had in mind would be just for Verifying Handset Comparability, Not for Regular Use.

Also, If Sim Handset Tester can also determine if Cell was Lost/Stolen as well, would be a Handy Lit'le Sim to have in case of Emergencies

If PM created this, and it worked, PM would be Very 1st Carrier to have Revolutionary Tool

^Yeah keep dreaming, PublicMobile is a budget carrier they can't even get the basic things correct and you expect them to come up something that doesn't even exist. Good Luck. Also FYI: Since the idea lab thing launched on public Mobile, they have yet to launch a single suggestion other then the Tri-Punch Sim Cards.

@chukdefatey, you must have faith. Public Mobile is still in the stage of evolution. @chukdefatey, Sooner or Later, PM shall get to the meat of the matter. After all, PM is the Fiat Chrysler Of the industry, They'll get better. They just need their Sergio Marchionne miracle worker. All will be well

Take it for what it is, but Public is simply a test run by Telus. Its purpose is to gauge just how LOW you can go regarding customer support/service and commodities (while still charging high prices) before more people leave than stay (or until you reach equilibrium). If profitable, PM stays and you hope to butcher up Koodo in the same manner as well (your stockholders will love you). If not profitable, you shut it down blaming the CRTC and whatever is the trend at the moment. I love my grandfathered plan dearly like you all do, but I'm not kidding myself here, as of right now, PM is a test.

So, love while you got it and jump when there is a better deal. The beauty of an unlocked phone and prepaid!

@Luddite I fully intend on keeping my plan until they outright shut down the whole operation.

@David, You on the left hand, are a Koodo Man. I, On the right hand, am a Public Man.

Telus, is not taking Public Mobile for some Trial Joy Ride.

They have some Grand Plan.

They'll succeed.

PM shall become the Shining Beacon of Hope for this Industry.

I can sense it, feel it, and even taste it.

PM just needs some Motivation, and a V10 Hemi to boost it to greatness.

Never fear, PM is Here

makkahn28, As much as I would like to agree with your idealism, I can't. Due to Public Mobile's insufficient return on investment per customer, it started to run a permanent deficit. Businesses remain in operation only if they make a profit. Those that don't either "close their doors", go bankrupt, or are purchased by another business. As you know, PM was bought by Telus. I heard the speech made by the now-former president. He said that his goal would be to return Public Mobile to a state of profitability, if that were possible. Bearing the above objective in mind, and knowing what Koodo offered and at what price, PM had to seek a new business model. That new model is buffet-style self-serve. I don't believe that a model exists that is more basic than Public Mobile's. Since the corporate objective is profit, you will not see your ideals implemented. They would cost money, without any or inadequate profit involved. PM's objective is not to be on the cutting edge of innovation, etc. Its objective is to remain profitable to such a degree that its stakeholders will be satisfied with its ongoing existence.
