Private IRC

Couple of times recently I could have assisted a customer more easily if an IRC/web chat facilty had been available. For example, I could log into my account while they log into theirs and help them navigate in "real" time.

We could set up this privately, Facebook messenger for example,  but I think, it would better if monitored by PM. For me it would only be active if I am online at our Forum; no notifications, no multiple conversations, only private peer-peer.

Facility to be used by active customers only; no visitors, no moderators. Initiated by a "helper" from a thread just as private messaging can be offered.

I already suggested something like this in the public lab a while back ago. Not specifically IRC, but something like a 1 to 1 chat session to get people past activations. Personally, I will Bravo this, but I'm pretty sure PM is not up to this idea.

We could do that, but whatever the solution, it needs to be easily accessible and visible to the person in need of help. A sticky named "Online chat support" at the top of a forum would probably work. The only thing within the online chat support thread would be the link to the chat session and a disclaimer of operating hours. Then there's the issue of who's going to monitor the chat sessions.
