One recurring issue I have noticed is the same questions or issues are being posted over and over again. While I understand that there are a multitude of reasons why this happens and our community is generally pretty helpful. I find that it can be very overwhelming for new members of the community.

For example, imagine a person is interested in learning how to port their phone number from Koodo properly. He/she may not be aware of any FAQs or know how to find it. What they will likely do is search the community for “Koodo” perhaps.

What that person will be presented with is a long list of threads that vary from minutes to months old. Further they are in various states of completeness. Some are partially or fully answered, and some just don’t make sense. This can very overwhelming for someone who is inexperienced or unfamiliar and will find it difficult to make proper judgement.

Here are some ideas I would like to propose:

  1. Provide a way for threads to be merged. Where, newer posts will be appended to one single origin thread. Forums like RedFlagDeals does this.

  2. Allow threads to be marked as duplicates. The duplicate thread will be closed and a prominent message will be displayed to indicate this and link to the original thread. Sites like Stackoverflow does this.

  3. Merging threads can be a moderators’ responsibility.

  4. To help alleviate some of the moderators' workload, community members can flag or report threads as duplicates and identify which thread they are a duplicate of. Moderators will then just have to review and approve them.

What are your thoughts? Feedback please.

Thank you

Oracles and moderators already can the ability to do #1 & 3. BUT we restrict it to duplicates by the same customer. Why? Because each customer's issue needs to be seen by all members for better problem solving.

I just posted a new idea that relates to this...for example, search 'port from koodo' in the community, and there are 620+ results.  I think it's true, that each customers issue needs to be seen by all members for better problem solving, but I think @bbdata is right that, after the problem solving has taken place, if maybe 615 😉 of those 620 topics were marked as duplicates of 5 definitive topics on the subject, that would help the same questions from being asked over and over.
