It doesn't look like they will launch the fall 2016 promo again this year probably because of the issues with support and the system they had for a couple of months. They did gain a huge amount of customers, but that frustration sort of holding them back when they think about launching it again. They did launch an exclusive promo similar to the fall 2016 promo but limited to FM customers only. It seemed like a good idea to lower the new activation compared to many non limited activations at once. Later on, that battle did not turn out so well.

 

So i am thinking, if they really want to launch a hot promo like the fall promo but at the same time limit the new activation to keep the pace slow, how about launching similar plan for a few months exclusive to community members with some amount of post or bravos. Based on their activities, they can manually offer the plan. This will bring some new community members who will engage with others and potentially help others. We can all agree that so far 2017 was unpleasant and did not deliver what we all hoped for. They need a boost as of now to convince us the future it holds.

I totally agree with you on this idea, exclusives will actually help us be interested in promoting PM more, since honestly speaking there is nothing to promote for here.

@zhadj030 I know the prices are not extremely  hot, but last time I compared pm prices to others koodo and fido, prices here were $7-30ish cheaper compared to other providers.

@mimmo Ontario wise and maybe other provinces sure. But us in cold small tiny Ottawa,  there is just nothing that attractive anymore, especially when having province wide calling .

@CalvinW, thanks for the vote of confidence.  I know it would be costly for you to switch accounts due to loss of referral credits, but is it perhaps worthwhile to go for it anyway to secure double the data?  I hope you are not having to buy addon data to survive.  I am finding that as time progresses, my data usage creeps up slowly.  When I joined a year ago, I was at around 2.5 gigs per month.  Last month I had around 500 megs left at the end.  So far, this period I am tracking right on the limit.

This is Public Mobile.  This is not Exclusive Mobile.

 

How is providing a promo for existing customers helping those who are not yet PM customers?

 

i realize that when the FM Promo was on, current subscribers were technically excluded from the plan, but so were all the other potential customers from other carriers.

 

We should be suggesting things in the Lab that benefit all customers, current and future.  We, nor Public Mobile, should be discrimating against those who have not yet signed up.

@stonechucker You would rather offer the crazy hot promo to the public and break the system for loyal customers? That goes the other way around too. You might say that they better get their system fixed up so it can handle new activation smoothly. When that time comes, they might not even offer such promos because when everything is perfect, there is a high cost for it. When they launch any promo, everyone compares it to the fall 2016 promo. They are likely not going to offer that and take away users from Telus/Koodo. There is a reason they offered it again for only FM customers.

Their system has tons of problems for months. They know about it but for some reason, they don't fix or improve it.

Limiting the promo only to active community members as i suggested wouldn't be a bad idea as a new customers can get on any current plan and work their way up to the promo for doing some work in the community. Don't forget that all other carrier treats loyal customers somewhat better than new.

@NDesai intruiging idea.  I have a thought--to make it easier for the mods to administer, they could the monthly top users rankings and offer it up to the top x% (x to be determined) that are not already on 2016 Fall Promo plan.  My thought there is that the selection criteria you've suggested for avoiding spam/unncessary community involvement sounds a lot like their super-secret proprietary community ranking system.  

 

On the whole, like @stonechucker, I would rather see them fix the glaring issues and offer it to all, but you're right that that will take forever, and in the meantime this might be a nice bonus for the active and helpful community.
