Have used this service and it was good. https://www.factoryunlock.co/unlock/iphone-factory-unlock-service/ Prices jump around a lot though and it's currently still cheaper to have PM unlock any Telus/Koodo iPhone ($50).
Anyone have any info on what is supposed to happen with old locked phones after Dec 1 when all new carrier phones should be unlocked for free?

Starting Dec 1st 2017 all Canadian Carriers must unlock any phone on their notwork for free for their customers at customers request. So you can't unlock rogers or bell phone unless you or someone you know have an active account with them.

I would hope that all the carriers would respect the spirit of the bill to unlock all devices, no matter what vintage, or whether it is being purchased at the time of unlocking or 'one that I had at home'.

Koodo is currently unlocking phones for free https://mobilesyrup.com/2017/11/10/koodo-is-now-unlocking-smartphones-for-free/
I would assume the other carriers will follow suit soon.

Curious to know as well. Still waiting to unlock my old S7 from Fido.
