I can access my voicemail by dialing my number.
When I dial "1" I get the message, "Connection problem or invalid MMI code".
When I press and hold the "1" key I'm directed to Settings where I find Voicemail Number <not set>.
Location is Yukon. Do I need to input a number for the "1" key to dial? Phone is Moto E on Android 6.

@srlawren, Exactly, this is not a long distance. Your local calling area depends on where your phone is physically located, regardless of the cellular phone number. The cell site that picks up the call determines the local calling area. Hence, there is no need to purchase a long distance add-on for a voicemail check.

@Acekiller this is a good question. I always assumed that the answer was yes, but I have seen here in the community someone claimed that it is not long distance to do so. @Shazia_K could you please confrim one way or the other? Thank you!

Thanks to the Public Mobile team, they have provided a solution that works.
In Yukon to access Voicemail on my Moto E by pressing and holding the "1" key the number
1 867 688 4001 must be entered in the settings for the Phone app. Don't forget the prefixed "1".

@Marzipan Ask your friends or relatives (who are with Public Mobile) for Voicemail access number and set it up.
OR
You can input your own number there.

If you have Canada-wide Talk plan you could actually use any of the numbers listed here. If you only have Province-wide Talk plan, you'll need to find the right number for you that isn't long distance and use that one (contact Moderator_Team for solution).
