talk only plan vs talk +sms

thinking of transfering my dad to PM.  he uses a flip phone and no data.  

Initally was thiking of the current promo then i relised he doesn't use smsing. so I could get away with a talk only plan.

My question is ocasionally he gets an sms and asks me to read it 5 days later or a month depending. so it really doenst matter, but   if someone sends him a sms and he doesn't have sms service do  the senders get a failed notification or something.  

what about PM smses will he get those?

From experience:
- When someone sends him a text, he would receive a text from PM telling him that he was sent a text but cannot receive it because it is not included in his plan. He would not be able to know from what number the texts are being sent.

- When I was on a textless plan and I referred friends, I still received PM texts telling me that I successfully referred friends.
Not 100% sure about other PM texts, I can't recall for sure, but I think I was getting them.

- Not sure if the other person get notified that the text hasn't been through, but I don't think they'll know. Nobody came back to me about these texts I received and that I didn't know who sent them.

@mimmo Just take the talk & text promo; only $5 more than talk alone every 90 days. Remember to get a ld add-on if he makes any calls out of province. I don't there is anything with just unlimited calling anywhere for that price.

Later convert him to an inexpensive smartphone and he will likely love texting.

I once tried to use a flip phone to conduct an sms message exchange.   It had only 12 keys to work with.  I wanted to smash the phone afterwards.

I do not believe so. I might want one of the other guys to confirm but I don't think that you will receive any messages, even including the ones coming from PM but I will have to confirm that.
Edit: here is a reply from Shazia stating that you won't receive texts with no active sms plan.
