Same model phone as your friends?

What phone do you have?

@nalie4 I'm afraid that means you must get a new phone, or it is not actually unlocked.

The last thing to try would be a factory reset; just be sure to backup all your data first. http://www.hardreset.info/devices/samsung/samsung-g386w-galaxy-core-lte/

If this is the situation: phone works with Virgin/Bell SIM but not with activate PM SIM. Then, the unlock has failed.

Any chance you got something on the contacts of the sim when swapping it?

Something you could try would be

  1. Turn off the device and remove the SIM card
  2. Blow away or use a dry soft cloth to remove any dust/dirt/lint inside the battery compartment and around the SIM card slot. ...
  3. Gently wipe the gold SIM card contacts with a soft cloth to remove any dust or oils.

Which phone do you have?

Were you able to try another sim in the phone?

it's unlocked I unlocked it with the code virign provided me

@nalie4 Based on https://willmyphonework.net your phone should work on PM; everywhere on 3G, but only some locations for LTE.

Unless you paid Virgin to unlock the phone it is still locked to them. It cannot be used on PM until it is unlocked. The best test would be to try the PM SIM in a friend's phone you know for sure is unlocked.

It's a virgin mobile lte sm-g386w, my old sim card works fine and the issue came up after I tried activating my phone on public mobiles website.

@nalie4 I believe phone messages for unlocked phones with a SIM installed are:

Flip phone: No Network

iPhone: No Service

Android: Emergency Calls or Unregistered SIM

It does suggest you need a replacement SIM or you have a locked phone. Where did you get it? What is make/model?

Put another sim card in the phone, active or not, and see if the phone detects the sim. If it does, the public sim could be defective. If it doesn't, the phone sim reader may be defective.

Does the public sim work in another phone?

It's in the phone but my phone is stating that there is no sim card

@nalie4, please clarify exactly the behaviour.  If the phone is not detecting the SIM card, it will display no SIM card even when there is one in the SIM slot.  Is that happening?  Alternatively, if the SIM card was not activated properly, then it shows no network connection.  Could this be the problem?

If it still doesn’t work, maybe faulty SIM?

Is your phone unlocked or locked to Telus/Koodo? If yes, try rebooting your phone or try turning air plane mode on/off.
