new sim card

my husband want to join public mobile , however he want to use his existing phone number. And also how can he switch from his existing provider to public mobile.

@saj2  Best to activate SIM card on a temp number .from PM .Then transfer your number to PM from your my account after having activated the SIM card . Leaving your old providers SIM card in phone you will get a confirmation text from old provider you reply YES to the text and have 90 minutes to do so . Then you’re done and that will close out your old providers account for you automatically. And when transferring the number it will ask for your old providers account number and IMEI . Just give the account number as the IMEI is not needed and causes more hiccups then not .here’s a visual pic of what to look for in your my account after activation notice  transfer number under the first red circle in top of pic . Then just follow the prompts

You want to first confirm your number is eligible to port onto PM first here:

confirm your number is eligible to port into PM (it is a Koodo site because both Koodo and PM use the same Telus system):

Then, make sure your old provider account is still active.  Login to your old provider account and make note of the account number

Next, get a Public Mobile sim card from

• local Telus/Koodo/Mobile Klinik stores: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/pick-up-SIM (call ahead to confirm availability ) 
• Amazon.ca:  https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07R6P5KBB/ (Free Prime Shipping)
• PM online: https://www.publicmobile.ca/sim-card   (Delivery could take anywhere from 5 days to 3 weeks)

Once you have the sim card, activate your account using the site or the app.  After the step to make payment, you will request to Transfer your exiting number instead of picking a new number.  Please provide your current phone number and the account number of the old provider as the porting info.

Once activation completed , still have the old provider sim card in your phone.  Your old provider will send you a SMS and ask your permission for the porting.  You need to reply YES within 90 mins for the porting to complete

Once replied yes, you can put your PM sim card in a phone and wait for incoming calls to come.  Reboot your phone ever 30 mins and test incoming call from another line.  If incoming call reaches your PM sim card, then the Porting is completed
