new activation scam?

Hi,

I purchased 2 SIM cards through Amazon by clicking on the link on publicmobile.ca.  There was a sticker on the card telling me to use a certain referral code to "get $10 off".  I did.  The next day I found out about the $20 off for friend referral.

Is there anything that can be done?  Was it a scam?

Thank you,

Not a scam, just someone taking advantage of available credits. You would have received a $10 credit for using a referral code to activate but currently the person who's referal code is used gets a $20 crefit plus the usual $1 per month for as long as you remain a PM customer. BUT, questionable in my mind if you got there from the Public Mobile web site.

The customer referal $1 credit is a great perk for those of us who actively promote Public Mobile but there is a point where all you are doing is skimming off $$ credits and providing absolutely no "customer service" in exchange for it. I worry about this perk "going away" with increased competition.

Just put "Public Mobile" into Craig's list or Facebook marketplace to see endless offers of referal codes to use. What really irks me is when Public Mobile puts up a post on Facebook about a promotion, it gets flooded with offers of referal codes which cheapens the whole company image in my mind.

Thank you so much.  I will try that.

Sounds like the sims were sold by a third party who is putting their referral code on them so that they get $1 off per 30 days and right now getting an extra $20.  If you really feel scammed you can contact the moderators and have the referral removed.  That is a slimy way to get referrals if you ask me.
