Are you on a 30 day plan. If you are, it sounds to me as if the most recent renewal process failed.
How much does your plan cost and is there a balance in your account? And, if you have autopay enabled, have you checked to see if your credit card was charged?
This next part is unlikely, but it's also possible for services to stop working if the network type selections have been incorrectly set from within the phone's settings. But like I said, that's unlikely because someone would actulaly have to manually change those settings.

1. Which phone are you using?
2. Is your phone unlocked? If not, ask your previous provider for unlock code.
3. Is your phone showing "Public Mobile"?
4. Is this a new activation or existing account?
