When I check my data usage, many nights it says there is significant data usage in the middle of the night. At that time my phone is at my home, charging, and connected to my wifi. I am asleep and not using my phone at all, so how could it possibly be using data? The last couple of months I've been running out of data and that has never happened before in the 5 years I've been on this plan.

PM updates your data usage twice a day. Around noon and around midnight so the amount of data you see in the night is your total amount of data from noon the midnight.
The amount you current see is not live update of your data usage.
You can look up the time and amount of data in your account under Usage Breakdown - View Usage History - filter to Data.

Public mobile reports their data usage once per day, usually early in the morning. The data usage reporting is not live reporting. Cummulation of data usage is reported once per day.
