data not working

I am new to smartphones, just got my first. Activated my public mobile account a month ago, but haven't been able to get my data portion to work except when on WiFi. Phone works, but can't get text or email until I get connected to WiFi. Any thoughts on what's wrong here?

This did the trick! I created a new APN profile for Public Mobile based on your recommendations and everything started working immediately! All problems removed!

Thanks a million for your help! (saved me from throwing the phone into the bush....)

Should I try to change these settings to match your recommendations?

That is:

1) add /mb/ to the MMSC

I notice that my MMSC setting is slightly different than your suggestion. Mine says http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc  (missing /mb/)

I also have a "Proxy" and "Port" number.

My APN says:   "APN Type: default, supl, mms"

I also have:

Bearer: (there is a long string of letter sets here)
MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator) type: None
MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator)value: Not set

Here's one issue I see right away. "Public" is on the Telus network. When I go to the networks settings I see two options: 1) TELUS SP, and 2) TELUS Services.  It is set on #2, and I see yout APN settings suggest TELUS SP, so I'll make the switch right now and try to put in your recommended settings

Data is enabled, I don't have many apps on phone as it is new, and only two of them are set to use unlimited data

@Todder

For Umidigi, you likely need to manually setup a new APN profile for Public Mobile

These are what you need to setup for the APN on your phone

APN: sp.mb.com
Proxy:
Port:
Username: <blank>
Password: <blank>
Server:
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
MMS Proxy: mmscproxy.mobility.ca
MMS Port: 8799
MCC: 302
MNC: 220
Authentication Type: Not Set
APN Type: default,supl,mms
         or    default,mms,agps,supl,fota,hipri
(might need to include DUN for hotspot, please note case sensitive)
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enabled
or  Turn APN on/off APN turned on
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator) type: GID
MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator)value: 4D

It is an off brand phone (UMIDIGI Bison 10X) with Android 11

Mobile Data is on, and network is set (and reset) to Public Mobile

I have wifi turned off for the moment, but it is usually on because4 that is the only time I can receive email and texts. Otherwise, my phone (talk) works anywhere.

I am on my desktop right now (talking to you), and working on the phone settings beside me.

Enable Data in settings. Disable Wifi Assist in settings and disable data to any apps you don't use on a regular basis.

@Todder

it is the APN settings that you need to check

what brand and model your phone?

the quickest fix is to click Reset All Networks.  And make sure Mobile Data is turned on
