I,ve had a public plan for over 5 years and have never down loaded the app till now. how do i get in to retrieve my reward points without starting all over again.

You don't need the app. just login My Account and click Rewards on the top right and you can access the rewards portal and check and redeem

They want me to pick a plan first and go thriugh the steps but I,ve got a plan for 4 years now.

Any rewards that you qualify for will be stored in your account. Just click on the Rewards Tabs and you will be able to a catalog.
Click on the catalog and it will show rewards available that you can choose from based on how much points you have accumulated.
You can choose data or minutes or payment towards your bill.

i can not even get into my account to redeem the points that are there.
