I have some relatives in the Windsor Ont area and I'd like to entice them to consider PM. I know that sometimes cell phones in Canada get a bit confused when they're close to the US border. Is that a problem for PM customers from the Windsor vacinity and if so, how is that problem addressed ?

My experience with Public mobile AND Koodo is they suck by the border. I have played golf in niagara only to have zero reception the entire round. I have roaming disabled and still have no signal. Another time I was using the phone as a GPS by the lewiston bridge but still on Canada side and it has no signal and therefore could not download maps.
Unfortunately I have never had this issue ever with Rogers. I only get the "Welcome to the US" text message once I cross the border. Besides this, the signal has been way bette than Rogers in city cores.

Disable roaming have nothing to do with the local calls or long distance calls originated from Canada.
When you disable roaming on your phone, your phone will not pickup any roaming carrier signals. If you are at a location at which there is no PM tower/signal nearby, you phone will not work. Since PM plan does not have roaming arrangement with Rogers, our phone will not roam at Rogers network.

I don't think that is what @popping meant.
If you turn off the roaming function of your phone you are forcing the phone to connect to (Canadian) towers that serve the Telus network, and not to US towers who might be closer / better line of sight.
If you leave roaming on, and the phone connects with a US tower your call will not go through unless you have an active US roaming add-on.

At the border city, like Windsor or Niagara Fall, cellphone may pickup US provider signal as roaming.
1. Turn off roaming on your phone.
2. Since PM is a prepaid service, it you do not purchase US roaminmg add-on, the call will not going through.
