Hope this hasn't been asked too many times before but couldn't find anything with the search...
Would really like to save $20/month by switching to that new 4G 15gb/month plan for $40 but not sure if my old phone will still work. Its a Huawei U8665. Anyone else currently using a 4g plan with an older phone?
Thanks!

You have to check if your phone supports 4G bands.
If not, you can still use your phone as 3G the only thing data speed will not be at the max.

@lindandjames Yes, even with 4G plan upgrade, you can still access the 3G network and use your 15GB data solely on the 3G system. 🙂
Just a reminder, when making plan change, make sure you understand the difference between Change plan now and Change on renewal date. Most people would choose Change on renewal date to avoid losing money from unused days of the current cycle

Hi softech thanks for the reply.
You're correct that im only after the same amount of data (and voice) of my current 3g plan, NOT the increased speed of 4g. Sounds like you're saying that changing to the 4g plan will work in that case. Just trying to be 100% sure because once the plan switches ive no other way of getting online and therefore will have difficulty switching back to a 3g plan (and they no longer offer the plan im using).

According to GSMArena, your phone does not have any LTE/4G bands at all
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
Only 2G and 3G. So, it WON'T work on 4G network and hence you shouldn't upgrade your plan to 4G plan. (It will work, you can still use the voice and data on the 3G network with the 15 GB data, but you won't be using the higher speed on the 4G network. So, if you are upgrading, you are going for the amount of data, not the speed)
It is an older phone, 3G will be gone in 2 years, you might want to consider getting newer phone with 4G
