Could you describe what did you try so far in order to delete vmail message.

Usually after listening it, pressing 7 will delete it and system will tell you it is deleted. If you have old message you should listen options and get to the point where it asks you to delete it.

If you deleted it but icon is not going away, turning airplane mode on/off removes it when you connect to network again.

While listening to the subject message you want to delete, have you tried pressing #7?

Do you mean that you've listened to it and even deleted it from the account but the icon on your phone won't go away.  If that's the case, call your cell number using a different phone. Leave your self a message.  After all that, check your messages again. That should clear the new voicemail icon.
