US data has a 15 days expiry, it will start right after the purchase is completed successfully. So, you can wait till closer to your trip to buy it
Also, a reminder, when you are in US, make sure you try to connect to T-Mobile network. If it does not connect automatically, then change the Network connection to manual and select T-Mobile
If you roaming purchase includes data, make sure you enable Roaming Mobile Data on your phone
If your roaming purchase includes voice, enable VoLTE on your device and you might be able to use VoLTE for voice. But if not, your phone should change to 2G network when voice calls come

HELP with US Roaming Please. I'm travelling to US Aug 1st crossing into NY State. I will purchase US roaming. When does it enable and come into service. For example: If I buy it today July 26th, does the 15 day clock start counting down now ? OR, will it start when I enter the US. Is it better to purchase US roaming the day before I enter the US ??
Thanks

1. Yes.
2. Depends
3. Yes.
4. LTE
5. You should get a text welcoming you to the US and inviting you to buy add-ons (even though probably already have).
The depends part is that talk is the problem. If your phone has been enabled for volte then you should have no problem. If not then you need to be able to switch the phone down to 2G GSM. The phone might do that automatically or it might not.
And roaming does not work in Alaska.
Adding - Talk works on GSM or volte. Text works on GSM or LTE. Data works on LTE.

So, the Add on is valid for 15 days from the day i purchase it?
When I reach USA, I just switch on the phone and it is good to receive incoming/outgoing calls and text?
If I want to use Data I have to turn on Roaming setting? Mine says 3G or LTE. Which should I select?
Please clarify as I am really nervous incase it doesn't work. Do I get a text message welcoming to Roaming?

Yeah, I missed the word 'data' in my first sentence. It does change the meaning, doesn't it @dust2dust.

@esjliv- Just if you have roaming data. That roaming switch is not need for talk or text.

if you're planning a trip to Alaska, you won't be able to use the 15 Day US Roaming add-on.
Also, before going to US, try to make sure your cell phone has the volte enabled. If you have an iPhone go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options (Roaming ON) > Voice & Data LTE or Volte. Not sure how android set up is accomplished.

Yes you need roaming enabled for USA Roaming addons @katmar . You can have roaming turned on all the time, as there is no overcharges here at public, unless you live near a border and have issues pinging to other towers...but even then you can force your network to Public. You will never get charged for something you do not have services for.
Are you using iMessage? If so, you'll need a data Roaming addon. Or set your phone to SMS and MMS enabled.

I recommend anyone on Public Mobile just leave data roaming on all the time to be safe. Then you never have to remember. It's impossible to be charged for services you don't intentionally prepay for, so there's no drawback to leaving data roaming on all the time. If you switch to a post-paid provider it's a different story of course.

@katmar for SMS text (not iMessage type of text), you don't have to enable roaming data.
But if you roaming has data portion , you should enable it
If you roaming has Talk/Text only , then you don't, but it won't hurt even you turn it on
