US data, text, and calls don't work with US & Canada plan?

I bought a plan that says "50GB Data within Canada and the US at 5G Speed" specifically for travel to the U.S. When I crossed the border, I didn't have any useful connectivity.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro and I checked my settings to make sure that data roaming was enabled but my phone showed SOS access only the entire time I was in the states.

What should I try or should I just switch to another provider?

Thanks for the link. I'm not in the US and, unfortunately, couldn't access any troubleshooting information on my last trip because I didn't have data. I'll try the manually selecting a network the next time I cross the border to see how that works.

Yes that is what I needed to do when I travelled to US recently. You have to manually select a network.

Also, as BKNS27 wrote, make sure VoLTE is enabled on your phone. 3g networks have been discontinued in the States so you need VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) to do voice calls. If your phone isn't compatible with VoLTE, you are out of luck

Did you recieve any texts from Public Mobile when you crossed the border? You should have recieved a text that you are Roaming. I don't think the "SOS" is normal  even without a roaming plan or add on. If possible next time you are in the US test your Sim card in another phone and/or bring a back up phone.

I would also contact customer support to inform Public Mobile of your lack of connectivity so if it occurs again after trying all of the troubleshooting tips you have a proof that it's a continuous issue with your service if you decide to seek redress.

Also enable VoLTE for calling in the US.

You are right.  It should have worked properly.  Are you in the United States right now? Public mobile uses AT&T and T mobile as their carriers.  Supposedly, Verizon also should work now.
