Android or iPhone?
first, if you just joined PM, make sure the old carrier sim card is removed, if esim, disable it. So, Public Mobile sim should be the only one left
if you have an iPhone, you can remove the phone number from Settings, then Phone and My Number. Reboot phone and reenter the phone number at the same setting menu to re-register iMessage
But if yours is an Android, uninstall Google Message Reboot phone and reinstall (or update) the Google Message from Play Store. You might also want to go to Google Message Settings menu and make sure RCS is enable and registered
