Text Messages

Periodically during the day I  fail to receive text messages from the US. Specifically from one person - from others i get msgs - Even from people in the same town.

Also if i walk down the road all the msgs previously sent all come in.

Last detail - in the evening i usually can get them.

Normally i would say signal strength except that as mentioned i get other texts from the US

I followed up on another reply - they suggested that i:

  1. tap 3 little dots top right,
  2. select Settings,
  3. under Chat settings, scroll to "Select default messaging type",
  4. toggle it to Automatic or Text/multimedia msg

This seemed to have worked but i appreciate you taking the time to reply

I think that this may have worked - certainly for the moment they are all coming through - we will see over the long term.

I changed to "automatic"

A really appreciate your help

@NSRick - How do you know if they are failing on your end? Could the issue be with the person in the USA sending it to you?

If you are not using data (iMessage or Chat Features) for your SMS messages, then try 1 or more of the below. You never know these things may 'kickstart' your network.

  • restart your phone
  • toggle into and out of airplane mode
  • perform a Reset of the device's Network Settings
  • move your sim card to another phone to see if the texts work immediately

@NSRick

I suspect this may have something to do with having RCS (iMessage or Chat) enabled.

With those services, the person sending/receiving must ensure "sending as SMS" is enabled when the RCS-based service cannot reach a destination, otherwise, the RCS message sometimes sit's 'pending' until the end user has data enabled or a reliable Wi-Fi connection to receive.

If Android, try adjusting Chat messages options.

  1. tap Messaging app,
  2. tap 3 little dots top right,
  3. select Settings,
  4. under Chat settings, scroll to "Select default messaging type",
  5. toggle it to Automatic or Text/multimedia msg

For Apple, adjust the iMessage settings:

  1. tap the Settings app,
  2. tap Messages,
  3. turn  iMessage off by toggling the switch to grey from green.
