Set up and Changing Carriers

Hi,

I received my sim and want to start the set up process. I'm hesitant because my save and return plan with rogers was supposed to end on March 31st but they're saying i have another billing cycle now before they'll let me buy out my phone. I'm wondering if I can still set up my new sim with public and port over my existing phone number to Public. I'm really hoping it will force rogers to release me, I've been very frustrated with their lack of information sharing.

Thanks!

@Epar   Your Rogers account must be active in order for your number to port to Public Mobile.  So you can't start the port after the Rogers plan expires, you must do it beforehand.  This is standard procedure for porting numbers.

Hello @Epar

If Rogers is saying you have one more bill cycle left, there are two options. 1. You CAN start the Public Mobile account now if you choose and get a temporary number. Then once your time is up with Rogers, you can log into your account and port over the number. However, I wouldn't recommend that. The second option is to wait till the Rogers contract is up and then the day after, start up your account and once it's set up and you know everything is working correctly, THEN port over your Rogers number. This way you are not paying for 2 phone bills. There is what I've heard from Public Mobile, 90 days to activate your account once it's started meaning you have time.

I bought a sim and plan with the plan to move things over before end of April with the understanding that my plan with rogers ended last month. That didn't happen.  I haven't set that up on my phone yet and I'm wondering if this is going to cause issues with rogers and set up now.

You already setup a new plan here?

Yes you can request porting your phone number later, you don't have to request putting now
