I just transferred to Public from my old provider, but i used an old account number when making the transfer. I can make outgoing calls, but texts or incoming calls do not work.

Then it sounds like the port didn't go through.

Got the text from old provider and responded to allow the transfer.
old sim still says the provider name.

Did you get a text from your old service provider? If so, did you say yes within 90 minutes?
If you put your old service providers SIM card into your phone, do you still have service or does it say SOS.
Confirm these for me and if things still aren't working, I can send you a number to call to assist with the porting process.
