Do you know if the phone centers are open on Walmart? They are actually not Walmart company, they rent space but are completely different company (I forgot the name) and I'm not sure if they are essential and allowed to operate. Penalties are very steep for businesses I heard

@kselmak hi all I can say for sure is last week a friend of mine bought a sim and a voucher although he signed up at home I do know most of the usual players are closed

I can understand not having people standing around getting activated and shown how to use their phone but come on...surely they can sell SIM's and vouchers and send you on your way.

But I guess if the employee isn't earning their pay then it's not worth it for the employer. I guess there's more money in activations and phones than SIM's and vouchers.

There is still:

Public Mobile online ordering

Amazon online ordering

eBay Canada online ordering

Craigslist Vancouver has for free

I do know both London Drugs and Walmart do not have them hanging like a gift card. You have to ask for one.....if some one is there.

Yes I know online. I thought this was about stores. Admittedly I didn't read the whole thread.

Mobile shop not open in Costco.

If you look at your current usage, please do. Then look for a suitable plan.

If if you are a light user and you do consider the $15 plan, take auto-pay for $2 off per 30 day period and receive 250mb of data. We had some good freebies, pre Christmas 2019 and currently a data add-on is available @$15 per 1GB. Add-ons do not expire.

My Public Mobile suggested add-ons for $15 monthly plan.

Suggested add-ons to bullet proof the $15 plan. Both my wife and I are low users of our $15 mobile plans but the one time cost of $25 makes our plans as good as any. And of course the maintenance cost to keep the “GOOD COMBINATION” in place.

For add-ons.

GOOD COMBINATION. More flexibility, less overall cost.

2 x $5 add-on (1 cent/min.) 500 Canada-wide Long Distance minutes

1 x $15 add-on (3.75 cent/min.) 400 International Long Distance minutes add-on this gives you full calling LD including USA, Canada and International for less cost per minute than using the $8 add-on.

=======

$25

NOT SO GOOD COMBINATION.

2 x $5 add-on (1 cent/min.) 500 Canada-wide Long Distance minutes

1 x $8 add-on (4 cent/min.) 200 U.S. & Canada Long Distance minutes**

1 x $15 (3.75 cent/min.) 400 International Long Distance minutes add-on.

=======

$33 Total                   **?The lesser value of the group ?

Note the $5, $8, and $15 add-on would all kick in for Local/Canada Wide calls if your allotted minutes were all used up. This applies to the $15 monthly plan only.

The reason for 2 x $5 add-ons, assuming most of your calls are Canada Wide, is......once 1 x $5 is used up and you are now using the second $5 add-on ......buy another $5 add-on.

The $15 add-on is less cost per minute than the $8 add-on and the $15 add-on has International, USA and Canada  while the only real use of the $8 add-on is for USA only calls.

Note 1: The add ons I have mentioned do NOT expire until all the minutes have been used.....the unused minutes roll over month to month until all exhausted.

Note 2: Keep in mind the value of “Rewards that’ll lower your bill”. And any freebies offered as in pre Christmas 2019 for 1GB of Data and 400 International Long Distance minutes and March 2020 (Covid 19 era) with 1/2 price 1GB Data. They treat us very well.

If you live out in western Canada, you can go to any London Drugs and pick up the SIM card there. They will even assist you with the activation in the store or you can do it yourself.

@jyotiram31

Due to distancing the stores are closed. At this point the only option is ordering the sim online and activating yourself.

It's really not that difficult and it will be a great demonstration to you how things run here and if it's acceptable to you.

You should give it a try and if you are comfortable with it you could save a lot.

Once you get the sim, come back here if you have any questions or concerns and hopefully we'll be able to help you.

You need  SIM card activate online,  very easy self serve menu, just did it.

@jyotiram31 You can go to the public mobile website and buy the sim online and you can fill out the online form and you can also port your number or you can go to Walmart which I believe is still open for business and they can do it for you, you can buy the sim right there

@jyotiram31  read article 3. In my post above.

do i have to buy the plan online?

how would I switch my current number to public mobile service

@jyotiram31

You do have some time

I would suggest that you don't leave it for the last day to switch if you are porting your number as you need your old account active to successfully transfer and if anything goes wrong it may take couple of days.

I would also recommend, once you know what kind of plan you want, activate it with the temporary number, see that everything is working fine and that you are happy with the service, then decide if you would like to port

@jyotiram31 , Public Mobile is primarily an online service.  They do partner with retailers such as Walmart.  Given the current situation, online is your only option.  Click on the get started link and follow the steps to ordering a SIM card, activating an account and porting your current number over.
