Public Mobile to Koodo Promo ?!

JaydeNicole

So I was talking to a Telus Representative one day about 6 weeks ago when I went into a Telus store to charge my phone in the mall. I told him I was with Public Mobile and I was disappointed that I was unable to upgrade my phone (due to financial reasons, and I cannot do any type of contract upgrade with PM and duets my credit being on the crappier side, after breaking up with my ex, I'm not eligible for a contract without a deposit of hundreds of dollars). Anyways, the Telus Rep asked me if I'd received a message from PM in June telling me about this promotion where if I switch to Koodo, they'll allow me to keep my phone I'm currently using, use it for 2-3months and pay my bill on time etc. then once I prove to them that I am going to be a "loyal" customer (I've been with PM for almost 5 years, lol, definitely loyal!) they'll give me the option to get a "tab" with them and I'll be eligible for an upgrade without having to pay an arm and a leg at once for a Samsung s6 or even an iPhone 6 or iPhone SE (which are the 3 phones I'd choose from that I want).
Has anyone else heard of this promotion??? Is it legit?? He told me they'd be offering it again in July/August, but I have yet to receive a text OR hear about it.
Anyone have any info on this?!

Hi @JaydeNicole!

I think you should write that long explanation to one of the mods!

Write a private message and provide your public mobile phone number as well.

thanks for alerting me to this. Yea, I read it this posting. I was refereing relatives to PM, but by the time I decided to go with PM they closed the stores and and only this site and the ability to order a sim so, I'm not considered a legacy customer

@Bubba again, it was only for legacy plan holders

You people that saw that promo sure were lucky

Yep, unfortunately the phone i would like to get tat would last me the longest and make the most sense seeing as I'm a single Mom of 1 and have another little one on the way (due Sept 14th, actually! So not too far away) it wouldn't even be in my price range without a "tab" or some kind of contract/payment plan 😞
I would love to continue doing business with PM since I've had nothing but (MOSTLY) good experiences with them and heir customer service. 9.5 times out of 10 they've been awesome! I'm just in a bit of a pickle due to their company being prepaid unfortunately.
I had a Telus rep in a store actually tell me about this promotion at the end of June 2017 and he said that people would be offered it again in August sometime. He must not have had ALL of the details and left out the "Loyal Customer/Grandfathered Plans" part! If you read one of my replies below, it explains why I don't know (well, I don't think!) that I'd be considered eligible for the promo even though TECHNICALLY I have been with them since Dec 2012. Ah well, we shall see!!
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my inquiry. I appreciate it! 😊
Have a good day!!

So here's the thing - it's frustrating - BUT I know that they CAN SEE on file that I was definitely a customer with the Original PM (before Telus acquired them) and I bought a phone from one of their stores and continued with it from December 2012. THEN, July 2016 came and I decided I wanted a new phone number, and I had a new phone also (a Telus phone, that I was going to use with PM - and am currently still using actually, lol. Hence the need for a new phone! 😞). I decided I was goi g to give my daughter my old phone and Public Mobile number BUT unfortunately, I ported THAT original PM number to Chatr Wireless because that was more of a plan , with their price range that worked for my daughter as opposed to ME being an adult. AND then I planned on just continuing my business with PM just with a new phone I had purchased myself online, and a NEW PM phone number cuz I felt it was time for a change. WELL, I was given inncorect advice by a PM rep that it would be NO problem at all, I could do that for my daughter and just get a new phone number and SIM card. Something along those lines (details
are a little blurry, but I know the "gist" of it). Well, I had to basically set up another account as a NEW PM customer, and was given a more expensive plan than the one I had, which was cheaper due to me being a long time customer. So long story short, TECHNICALLY I *should* be eligible for that promo BUT because of that situation.. I'm not entirely sure. I really, really just NEED to get a new phone and cannot afford that extra cost right now, so I'm disappointed. I want to stay with PM they've been great to me, worked with me, 9.5/10 times I receive excellent customer service and the price plan (even with the increase after that "mishap" ) is affordable. I COULD use more data but I find it's too much of a jump from 1GB to anything more than that per month, so I deal with it.
Whew! I'm so sorry for my "word vomit" there 😂😂 I just realized how LONG my response was.
Thank you so much for your response and I appreciate your input. Fingers crossed I figure something out, before my current phone gives out COMPLETELY!! 🤣😞

@shawnie_boy as @Dan and @imm1304 have noted, your plan would not be eligible to be ported over to Koodo.  You should try to keep that plan for as long as practical, since nothing like it is being offered any more.

@JaydeNicole if you're still on your original plan from when you activated or from at least a couple of years ago ( @imm1304 do you remember the exact cutover date between the legacy plans and the first pick-and-pay plans? ), then you might well have been eligibile.

As @Dan pointed out, there was a promo for the old legacy customers where they could choose to move to PM's sister company Koodo and keep their plan and go post-paid.

Old legacy PM customers are the ones that the new Telus-owned PM inherited and maintained call center support for.  Those customers were given the chance to move to Koodo to continue receiving phone support while the new PM became the "phone company without a phone number".

So there is no hope that the new PM customers will get this Koodo migration offer.

my reccolection was that it was for legasy and pioneer accounts, not for regular accounts.  Ie they are/were trying to gt red of PM's call center.

have you looked on craigslist for a newish/used phone?

This is the promo the rep was talking about:

I do not know if there will be a repeat of the promo though.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this. But I am fairly new to PM so would not know. I wonder if Koodo would let you keep your current PM plan? 🙂
