I wanted to create a ticket but can't verify my account.
The question is below. Your answers are appreciated.
I have a question about porting my phone number. Currently, I'm with Sasktel, Saskatchewan, with phone number 306******. 1) I wonder if I could port that phone number? 2) Because I'm absolutely new to it the question can be dumb - can I use Sasktel's SIM card for your services? 3) When I port my phone number with you, the previous network will be terminated right away, won't it?

@antosha-85 You can setup the number port from SaskTel when you are ready to activate your Public Mobile SIM card.
Public Mobile recommends to take the following steps if you need to port-in a number:
- Be sure to note the best practices below to ensure a smooth process:
- Only the authorized account holder can transfer a number.
- You cannot transfer numbers between Public Mobile accounts.
- Your previous account must be active in order for the number transfer to go through. Once the transfer is complete, it will be automatically deactivated from your previous service provider.
- Double check your old account info, as it needs to be correct in order for your number transfer to complete. Here’s the information you’ll need:
Mobile Phone Number Transfer
Landline Phone Number Transfer
Alternate Phone Number
Complete billing address
First and Last Name of the account holder
Alternate phone number
You’ll also need to provide one of the following: your old account number or your ESN/IMEI/MEID number or your account PIN
First and last name of the account holder

I have a question about porting my phone number. Currently, I'm with Sasktel, Saskatchewan, with phone number 306******. 1) I wonder if I could port that phone number? Yes you can!
2) Because I'm absolutely new to it the question can be dumb - can I use Sasktel's SIM card for your services? No when switching providers you will always need to purchase a sim card from the new provider and activate their card before you can use their network.
3) When I port my phone number with you, the previous network will be terminated right away, won't it? The termination will occur when SaskTel release your number to Public Mobile. Until that happens then you will still be able to receive calls and use their sim card.

You can port that number, usually if you're porting your number during activation for the first time. The main thing you'd need is your account number, if your account is showing for your current provider. Secondly, you need a public mobile sim card to use the service. Lastly, yes when the porting is complete with no problems your old provider Sasktel will shut down automatically.

Which is not relevant to the OP's inquiry about porting from SaskTel.
A Telus mobility number is virtually guaranteed to be able to be ported to Public Mobile since they're technically the same company, sharing the same logical backend infrastructure.

@antosha-85 To be clear on #3; yes SaskTel should close your account automatically as soon as the transfer is complete.
Although not a requirement, it's safer to open your PM account, ensure it is functioning, and then transfer the SaskTel number. It is rare, but sometimes a new customer has no service on PM nor on their old carrier if activation and transfer both have glitches.

Hi @antosha-85 I'm also in Saskatchewan, so happy to comment on this. As long Telus (PM's parent company) has a prefix in the same rate centre as your SaskTel number, you should be able to port no problem, as long as you keep the SaskTel account active, as it will be cancelled for you as part of the porting process to Public Mobile.
I consult this site to see which areas have prefixes served both by SaskTel Mobility and TELUS Mobility, is a good bet it will be OK. You might have an issue with a location such as Climax ( 😆 ) that TELUS does not have a local rate centre.

What is the prefix? (Next 3 numbers after 306). I can try to give you a good idea. I believe there is an option to check if the number is 'eligible' for porting from step 2 in the signup process. Normally, I would have also been able to check via the checker from my own self-serve account but automated porting is disabled due to maintenance at this time. I am presented this text which you can try before activating if you like to inquire definitively about a specific number:
"To transfer your number from another provider, please reach out to a moderator through our chat bot. To complete your port-in request, please open our chatbot via this link bit.ly/2GF1pHW and type in “port request”. This will put you in touch with our moderator team."
You're making a good move to Public Mobile in Saskatchewan - a primary deciding factor for me was the fact that Telus, Koodo, and Public Mobile coverage is provided by SaskTel Mobility's infrastructure in this province, so you'll have exactly the same reliability and coverage as you're used to. (Save for the data throttled to 3mbps)
And yes - you will need to buy a new SIM card from Public Mobile, as they are carrier specific. The SaskTel SIM will not be usable after porting.
