Porting Issues - please help

Okay, so here is what is going on:

August 29th I Joined public mobile, I signed up in a walmart and my account was made, and my number automatically ported from Virgin Mobile.

Since then I haven't received all my texts or phone calls, infact I have missed a lot of them. At the time of joining public, I called virgin to cancel my plan with them. On the phone they told me it had gone through and that my plan was canceled.

Today I switched back my sim card to my old virgin mobile, as I have been having troubles receiving texts, and a lot my missed texts came in. I called virgin and they told me that my account had never been canceled, and that they had no record of my closing my account with them at all. (This is a phone call that 3 other people were present during, I know I called them and canceled my service.)

I quickly re signed up with virgin, because at first, I thought this issue was Public Mobile's fault. Now I am not sure what has gone on. I have been apllying for jobs, so I needed to return to virgin asap so I can receive phone calls from these places. Some texts came in through the public mobile sim, while most did not. I have been charged with public mobile for the month, was told at the store that my number would port within 24 hrs (and when a text or two came in - believed that this was the case)

I was no notified that the phone number had failed to port, but now when I try to use the phone number to create an account to check it, with public mobile, no confirmation number comes through.

I now have to swap between sim cards, as I am getting half my texts through public, and half through virgin, and when I swap sims, I get different ones. (D:)

I am obviously livid with Virign, not only did they say they had no record of my canceling, but they are extremely rude to me about it and would rather not stay with them, but I absolutely need my phone calls at the moment. I am angry I have been paying for a service that has not been working, (on both ends?) as this is a week now, that potential employers might have been calling me, and not getting through.

Because some texts were coming through, I had no way of knowing (until someone told me specifically that they texted me and I never received it) that the plan wasn't functional. I have schooling too, and my teachers have been trying to get ahold of me.

Now I am signed up with virgin and public, and public has charged me for the last week of usage that wasn't totally working.

I'm not very phone savy to be honest, when I called virgin and they told me it was canceled, I assumed it was. When the guy said it would port in walmart, and then I started getting texts, I believed that to mean it worked as well. I didn't initially sign into my public mobile account as the verification text didn't come through (still virgin sim at the time as the numbers were porting) so I was going to come back to it at a later date. Now I have managed to log into my account, which is good, and I used my public mobile sim to recieve the verification text.

Can someone piece this together? What is going on?

@computergeek541, that porting setup difference is new information for me.  Thanks for saying there is a difference.

I think this is why many have suggested getting a temporary number active first, then once operation is fully confirmed, initiate the port in from old carrier.

To my knowledge, doing that will still make the number the Public Mobile account change immediately, and would still mean no incoming service until port complete.

The temp number at activation would be because of the accounts being charged to payment source but sevice not being provisioned.  In theory, number could port over to Public, but customer has no working account. I doubt there is any difference in porting success statistics, but that people just want to avoid that one system bug (which can still happen if taking a new number).

sorry, I didn't specify, they set to cancel at the end of the period in order to give us time to transfer. It was set to cancel on the 3rd, but they told me now (i just called again) that the guy made the notes that he was going to cancel, but never actually did anything at all. So it never canceled.

They also just told me that it should be impossible to be getting texts to the same number, on two different sims, and that the public sim shouldn't be working at all, but I can make phone calls (edit) from it (and i can't make phone numbers from the virgin sim.) I can text from the virgin sim, and can't from the public one. Wierd stuff.

Anyway, I have msged the mods now, and virgin has set my account to cancel after the request has gone through now.

The texts on 2 different sims isn't exactly common but not unheard of.  It's almost always that mesaages originating from within the same carrier get delivered.   It's not sipposed to happen, but it can happen.

Virgin should not  be making assumptions about another carrier's porting processes.  Telus/Koodo/Public assign the number requested immediately to the account, even before the transfer is complete. This means that outgoing is always supposed to start working immediately.  This the opposite to Freedom/Rogers/Fido/Chatr who only change the number after the number transfer from the other carrier is approved.

Believe it or not, Virgin actially did you a favor by not cancelling for you.  As cancellation is automatic upon successfil mumber port out, them cancellimg would have caused more problems.  You would have had to call Virgin back to reactivate before porting.

Keep using your Virgin service for now, although they will continue to charge you.  Double check your Virgin account number to have the moderators submit another request.  As it is now, you phone number never ported to Public Mobile.

@leondeeley1, in very few words, the port did not go through.  Your account with virgin has always been active and holding your number.  Failed ports need to be resubmitted by the moderator team.  The moderator team can be reached via private message using this link.  Please include in the private message account number and PIN code.
