A couple of days ago I ran out of data so I purchased 1GB more.
It still didn't work and today when I log in it says Plan Expired with no way to fix it. I can see the extra $15 listed, and my plan renews tomorrow. How can I fix the expiry? What causes the plan to expire especially since I bought the extra GB.

@Spicy Couple more hours before renewal, I suggest you do nothing for now.
When you bought the $15 add-on, you have in fact just loaded the fund and did not purchase the add on (Purchase add-on is a 2 steps process and many people missed the 2nd step). Since the fund was not used, it is sitting there as Available Fund and will be used for next renewal, in your case tomorrow.
Although it said Plan Expired, but you should still have calling. It's PM weird way of renewing. After around 6PM EST on the night before renewal, it will change the status to Plan Expired. You should have full service including Data after the plan is renewed (assuming you have Autopay setup)

@Spicy Your 1 GB did not work likely because you did not complete the purchase. Buying an add-on requires to re-purchase add-on because the first time you buy, system just adds the funds in your account. I would say leave that $15 in your account and it will be used to renew your plan.
If services are currently working and you are on AutoPay, ignore that error and it will disappear tomorrow when your plan successfully renews.

Do you still have services? If yes, this could be your account going through the normal renewal process. The SELF SERVE account can say "expired" or "suspended" on the day of or before your plan is due to renew. So if this is the case, ignore these messages on your SELF SERVE account.
If you have no services, and it is past your renewal, maybe your autopay failed?
If this was an Autopay failure, I would let the Customer Support Agents (CSA) know.
And, also ensure all rewards were or will be provided to you.

As for your 1GB addon, do you see it listed in your overview under your Self Serve?
Try one or more of the below:
*turn off your phone, leave off for a minutes, then reboot
*removing your SIM for a few minutes, then reinserting it
*go into airplane mode for a few minutes, then going back to regular mode
*reset network settings
Was data working before you added the addon?
Check your APN settings. For Android phones try editing to this.

Running out of data has nothing to do with your plan expiring.
Plans expire when you don't make payment on the due date.
Log in to your account and make a payment to reactivate your account.
Edit: I stand corrected.Plans show "Expired" when they are in the process of renewing. I was thinking "Suspended". Sorry for the mix-up.
If you have made a payment or have enough Available Funds, the plan will renew normally and the account will become "Active" again.
