Hi, it's me again. Still in search of a new phone and watching for Black Friday deals. I note Pixel 7 and Pro are on the whitelist. 7a is newer than these, so it is not on the whitelist.
Will THIS one work in the States roaming? Does anyone know? One would assume so, but that's a lot of money on an assumption. TIA

Yes, they seem to be really nice!

Yes it will work with VoLTE in the US. They're great phones, I think I'm on my 4th Pixel phone now.

Will it work in the States, though? Like, I don't want to spend $400 on a phone that doesn't work. Logic would dictate if the pixel 6, 6 pro, and 6a work and the 7 and 7 pro, that the 7a iteration will also.

I get you. He has one for work. The issue other than what we've previously discussed is one of the apps we use has no iOS equivalent and it's a must have for us both.

There was still some service in Maine and Pennsylvania but none in South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida.

Yeah we didn't have any luck even with my help to get it working. Signal was too poor in back woods for data calls as well

All the newer Pixel devices, including the 7a, are VoLTE compatible on Public Mobile.

@hncfreyja2, earlier in the summer my wife had to travel to the US and her phone supports VoLTE but is not on PM's whitelist so it did not work for her but through some help from me she was able to connect to T-Mobile and it worked (in Florida near Clearwater area), but we ended up using WhatsApp instead with it's video calling which worked perfectly with data and didn't use much data at all to my surprise. If you have that as an option you probably won't need to worry about voice calls but even that you can do through Whatsapp if you don't want to do a video call

@hncfreyja2 I hear ya it is frustrating for sure , but for non techie guy again my vote is for iPhone it “just works” as you mentioned . It’s always safe bet and it’s like having money in the bank even with older tech iPhones . If he has never used one there will be 2-3 week learning curve but most I know that made the jump myself included never looked back

He could not connect to 2G last time he was down there. I presume there was none in the areas he was in.

That is what I would like to do but there are no sales on 7s or 7 Pro and 6a is older and new ones are scarce. The Moto one at Costco is cheap but it's specs are meh. Even the Edge 2022 is still better than a lot of these phones. One is on sale for $245 right now. Not bad, but that still seems a little high for over 2 year old tech.
The above is in brackets referring to the builds. But for iOS the above is the phone AND the OS. I have never been so frustrated as I have trying to figure out what phone to get with this carrier. It's beyond ridiculous that I have to sit here and guess at what will work or won't My husband isn't tech savvy in the least so he needs to be able to go to the States and have stuff just work. It was a nightmare the last time he was away for both of us.

@hncfreyja2 I can't seem to find any confirmation specifically for Public Mobile but I would have to agree with you that since the 7 and Pro are on the list I can't see why this version would not work but that in itself is not a guarantee. If you decide to buy the phone please do let us know about your experience but also know that if the 7A does not work with VoLTE you should be able to manually connect to T-Mobile's 2G network (provided it's in your location) and continue to make voice calls or you can also use Whatsapp or similar apps for calling.

@hncfreyja2 To be safe just stick with a phone that’s in the voLTE whitelist for best possible experience while roaming is my suggestion
adding I think it will work @hncfreyja2 as it says the pixel 7 and above so I think it’s still will work . Just like the iPhones say 8 and above and all iPhones that came after the 8 are not on the list and they work so I believe your safe
