Hi,
I just received a phone call from someone who claimed to be from the fraud department of the TD bank. The person also had my name. First, I don't do business with that bank and 2nd, it sounded like a scammer. So I hung up right away. I suppose that I should change my phone number. If yes, can someone tell me how to proceed. Thanks.

PM tries to help with SIM swap situation. The 2FA requirement when you login My Account is there as a measure to avoid sim swap. That is also why it is a requirement to receive 2FA via SMS text on existing sim card at least once before it will allow using email or voicemail as alternative ways to get 2FA to login My Account or PM app

@foffe wrote:Thanks for your reply. It's the first phone call but I have had some anonymous texts sayings things like hello or how are you today. I didn't answer but maybe it was scammers sending out feelers. Maybe I am just too paranoid. I would rather not change my number because it's a real hassle to notify all my contacts and service providers. But then again I use that number for online banking. Could that be an issue.
Oh I get those "Hi how are you" texts once every few months. I just delete and block. No biggie.
Honestly, I'd hold off a bit from changing it for a while. If it happens say more than 4 times a month, then for sure but I get those and I just ignore. Then again, I have an iPhone and with the newest OS roll out, they have call feature that asks the person what they want. It's pretty cool.

At this point, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You did the correct thing by hanging up.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers out there. Changing your phone number might or might not fix it. Eventually, someone else will call you.
But, if you want to change your phone number, you can do so up to 4 times per month.
You just sign into your account and go to the Profile tab and click the pencil beside the phone number and choose select province and phone number you like.

You can go into your account and change your number yourself. It's super easy to do. But let me ask you this. Is this the first time? If so, maybe I wouldn't jump the gun just yet. But you can always change it here when you log in...

You are permitted to change it up to 4 times a month or once per week.
