Pay as you go?

g--rok

Hi there!  Public Mobile, do they have any pay as you go offers (not monthly fees, but pay as you up the data which could by 30days, 60days, 90days, etc.)?  Thanks in advance.

@g--rok  Think of it like this:

Lets say you want a Pay as you go plan for 360 days. With Public if you pick the $15 plan and use AutoPay you will get a $2 credit every 30 days so total cost would be $156plus tax. If you use a referral code during activation you get another $10.00 credit. So the cost drops down to $146.00 plus tax. If you activate at a WalMart then you will get the sim card for free.

So what to you get for $146.00 plus tax:

  • Unlimited Incoming calls (360 days)
  • 100 minutes of Outgoing calls Canada wide  (resets every 30 days)
  • Unlimited Texting (360 days)
  • 250MB of data (resets every 30 days)

If you need more outgoing minutes you can purchase the 500 minute add-on for $5. Those minutes never expire and stay in you account until all used up. It is a good idea to have in the event that you need more minutes if and when you exceed your 100 outgoing minute allotment during any 30 day period.

So for $146 + $5 = $151 plus tax you get all the above. Keep in mind that for every year you remain with Public Mobile you get an additional $1 credit (every 30 days) and also get an additional $1 reward (every 30 days) for any new referral that you sign up with PM.

@g--rok  The deal just got even sweeter take another $40.00 of the price above. More details here:

There are no pay as you go plans with PM. Add ons can be bought and the sole data add on costs $30 for 1gb. PM recently offered a free 1gb to all new and existing customers.

PM does not offer pay-as-you go service.  The cheapest plan is $15/30days or $13/30days if you enable autopay.

7-11 Speakout may be for you.  $25 topup will be good for 1 year.  SO charges $1.25 fix charge per month on top of 30 cents per minutes.  If you use more than 46 minutes/m, it is cheaper to get PM $15 plan.

Speakout monthly cost = $1.25 fixed monthly charge + $0.3 * 46 = $15.05/m

If you use text message, Speakout will be more expensive.

What is your monthly usage?  ? minutes, ? text message

This service is a bit of a mixture.  The base plans are like regular postpaid accounts where usage does not roll over and renewal is on a 30 day cycle.  The add-ons are like pay as you go where they don't expire until it is used.  A base plan is required for all accounts.

There are only very few real pay-as-you-go providers in Canada. Their unit rates are quite high. Estimate your monthly usage and see how much it costs you and then compare it to, say, the $15 plan here.

I was really happy with SpeakOut offerings until my needs changed relatively drastically. Nowadays, unless it's a real emergency phone or to park your number with access to SMS*, I believe Public Mobile's $15 plan with autopay is a better choice for many people.

* edit before someone feels that VOIP providers are cheaper for number parking: There are no VOiP services that offer numbers in my local area and thus can't port in my number(s).

Are you taking about data add-ons?  In addition to your monthly prepaid plan, if you use up your data and needed a bit of top up, there's:

In Canada Data Add-Ons⁷

Any unused data will roll over to your next cycle.

1 GB Data $30
200 MB Data $10

No such options really

But you can pay every 30/90/120 days

Just dump enough funds on your account and the autopay will be withdrawing from your balance.

Data/minutes/texts will be resetting every 30 days though

Add-on minutes and data never expire

Minutes are as cheap as 1c/min

Data is $30/gig

The minimum plan you can go with is 13(15-2).

It will give you unlimited incoming and world sms/mms 100 outgoing and 250 megs.

You could find people selling their old $10 plan , it would be $8 or less with autopay and loyalty, may be as low as $3/month. Check kijiji or craigslist

@g--rok  Public is not monthly. You pick a plan and prepay for 30 days at a time. You can buy add-ons for additional services that stay in your account until used up but you will need to have an active plan to use them.
