Paid for a voucher number, but it cannot be added

So, what gives?  I paid for a voucher number at an Esso gas station near me.  Tried to input the number but received the message, "unfortunately, voucher number xxx could not be added.  Please verify the Voucher and try again."  Tried again, no joy.  Who can help?

if you kept the voucher I am sure the mods can investigate for you, given that you input the right pin.

Are you sure you are entering the PIN number?  It would usually be 12 digits long, like this:
