Outgoing text messages showing up as original Public Mobile number

Hello,

When I switched to Public Mobile, after I got my SIM card I got a temporary number.  Then once I confirmed the temp number was working OK and I was happy with the cell reception and performance, I ported my real phone # to Public Mobile.  While I had the temp number I sent text messages to my spouse.

When I ported my original number to PM, I sent text messages to my spouse and it appeared to come from my original number as expected.  Everything OK.  This was about 2 months ago.

However today, my spouse is noticing that my text messages are showing up as my original temp phone number.  I don't know why this is all of a sudden.  Nothing has changed at our ends.  I texted other people and my text messages are appearing as my original normal phone number (as expected).

Things we have tried:

1) Restart spouse's phone

2) Restart my phone

Both are Android phones.  I'm using the normal Android text messaging app that comes with the phone.  Spouse is using Samsung Android phone using the default messaging Samsung One UI app.

Yeah I guess that's the next step but honestly I can't be bothered at this time.  If my outgoing texts are from another number on someone else's phone, then yeah I can troubleshoot more.

@Slothie   Almost certain it is an app or device issue

you have another phone to put in your wife sim card for testing?

Still no solution, but the issue seems isolated to my spouses phone (built-in Samsung One UI messaging app) .  She does not want to lose any message history so I can't nuke the data from that app.  Again, this is low priority but keeping it here in case someone else runs into this issue.

@Pop_Eye

OP has Android phones.

Do you have an iPhone?

@Slothie

this is a customer support issue. no amounts of workarounds from the community can fix this.

@Slothie   no.  Sender's sim ID won't pass to others

Try to clear cache or even delete data on the message app first

agian, if that does not work, try using another message app, like Google Message if she is on Android

The temp number was never a contact on her phone.  I've removed all instances of that number in the messaging app.

The only thing I can think of is that the sender's SIM ID is somehow tied to incoming SMS messages?

Does your and your wife’s contact list still contain the old number? If yes then remove the “no longer” number.

When she dials 1XXXYYYZZZZ (the old temp number), the number cannot be completed as dialed.  When text messaging that number, it goes to my phone.

Other people have texted 1XXXYYYZZZZ as a test and I do NOT get their messages.  So I suspect this is isolated to her phone and her messaging app.  Sadly, she has lots of saved messages on the app so very hesitant to clear it all.

I rarely use text messaging to her anyways, so not a high severity issue.  But would like to know a solution (if possible).

They are all grey on her phone on the left side.  Not blue or green.  Grey.

Well my old PM temp number has no contact info on her phone.  It's literally showing up as +1XXXYYYZZZZ.

@Slothie

the colour can tell if it is RCS or notChat-SMS.png

Also, delete your contact entry from your wife phone , it could be the reason.

The voice calls still work no problem, and work as expected.  My outgoing calls (to different people now) all show as my original number as expected.

It's just outgoing text messages to my spouses phone, which show up as my original PM temp number.  Truly strange.  And this just started happening in the last week or so.

I deleted my "conversations" on the Samsung app and still showing up as my old temp number.  No idea what changed!

How can I verify that it was RCS?  How would that make a difference?  Prior SMS/MMS worked ok.  Now my SMS/MMS is from my temp PM number, just on her phone.

@Slothie just to confirm, you are receiving incoming calls on your old (ported) number without problem?

I would first clear cache on your wife messagimg app,  might even try to clear data

Also, try installing the new Google Message.  Samsung is moving over to use Google Message anyway

...And , I wonder if the old number text between your wife and you were in fact RCS...

Sent prematurely.  Does anyone else see this issue or had this issue in the past?  What would cause this?  How to fix?  Thanks.

On my spouses phone any conversations with me show up as 2 separate threads (my original number and my temp number).  Appearing as temp number now.
