@Melissa10 Could be some temporary issue. Try toggling airplane mode on/off. You can also try setting your network to 3G/WCDMA temporarily.
There could perhaps be a local network outage in your area.

What recording do you get when you dial 611?
Have a look at devicecheck.ca just in case.

Try reinstalling your sim card and rebooting your phone. Try choosing just 3G in your phone network settings.
Or there just might be an outage in your area right now.
Log into your account and make sure that it says that your account is active.

Good that Telus is working. So now with your account, first check self serve if the plan is paid for and active.
Sometimes autopay fails and services gets suspended.
Next you can try reseat the SIM.
