@RickAA If you're not expecting any incoming calls or texts, or were going to turn your phone off annyway, it doesn't actually matter when you switch your sim card.
The best scenario would be to use an additional compatible device so that both sim cards can be used at the same time. If you do this, make sure to keep your Rogers sim card in the original device becauae it could cause problems if you used IMEI as porting information.
The reason for wanting to keep your Rogers sim in your device is so that you don't miss any texts coming from non-Telus customers and so that you won't miss your incoming calls.
The reason for having your Public Mobile sim in a compatible phone has to do with incoming text mesaages from Telus customers will be sent here. In addition, you won't know when the transfer is complete if you aren't using your Public Mobile sim card unless you check to see if your Rogers service has stopped working. When porting is complete, text messages from non-Telus customers will start being routed here as well as any incoming phone calls. Public Mobile also sends a text message informing of when porting is complete (although I'm aware that it isn't always received).

Hi, first test out your new sim to make sure your public mobile service is working well. You should be able to send texts and make outgoing calls right away. When the transfer is complete, all incoming texts and calls will also go directly to your public mobile sim.
Meanwhile, you can continue to use your rogers sim to receive your calls and texts. Once the transfer is complete, you rogers sim will stop working and your rogers account will close automatically.
Welcome to public mobile!

Welcome to PM. You can switch your sim card once you finish registering the account. However, it may take an hour or two to port your number which you will be unable to receive calls just yet.

The number transfer process can take up to 2 hours to complete for a mobile phone number. When you transfer a landline number, the process can take up to 3 business days. When your number transfer is complete, you will receive a confirmation text message.
Once the port is completed then your Rogers account will be cancelled.

@RickAA welcome to PM. Switch it out once your Rogers SIM stops receiving calls and messages.this means the port is complete and the Rogers count is now closed. Turn your phone off to make the switch. Whats the make and model of your phone? Thanks. Stay safe.

@RickAA When your Rogers service stops working switch to your PM sim and it should all be good to go. Welcome to PM.
