Hello,

I was with chatr pay as you go and have changed to public mobile. The new SIM card when entered comes up with network unlock code error but when I called chatr to see if they had a lock on my phone they said no. So why I'm I having this problem ? ?

@Khanadian I've merged your "Compatible Phones" and "Network unlock code" threads since they are really two sides of the same coin.  In the future, please try to limit to one thread per issue to avoid confusion and duplicate responses.

@Khanadian oh, yeah that sounds like your phone is locked to Chatr unfortunately.  You will need to get it unlocked to work with Public Mobile.

Network unlock code

You need to unlock your phone.

What does it say on your screen when you put into your public mobile sim card?

I bought the prepaid phone from London drugs and started an account with chatr and it was a pain in the butt to get it to work . But with their help and me going into settings to change to chatr network and I can't recall all the areas changed. I did reset to factory settings and when I put the pm SIM card in network unlock code comes up. I tried calling chatr and they said there was no lock on this phone, so I'm at a loss as to why this isn't working.

I would try Rogers/Chatr again. Sounds like your phone is locked to Rogers.

Did you buy it from them originally?

I bow to the expert here, @sheytoon.

However, there are also reports that unlocked Samsung phones are locking to the provider of the first SIM card inserted. So it's likely that the phone is locked to ChatR even if it was bought unlocked.

According to other posts there should be an unlock pin in the box or manual?

Not sure why you posted again: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/Compatible-phones/m-p/199019#M58263

I will merge it anyways.

Since you love this phone, you can keep it and use different phone, and bring both at the same time.  🙂

Seriously if the phone isnt working, then its not working with the network unfortunately.  There is nothing you can do other than switch the phone.

You have already received some good answers in your other threads. There is really no need to duplicate...

Sorry, there’s not really much you can do other than to switch phones or switch carriers.

Hi

I started an account with pm only to see my Samsung galaxy j1 Is not compatible. total bummer I love this phone.

Any help would be appreciated 😉

@Khanadian

You have not specified what exactly makes you believe that your phone is not compatible.

In addition to the suggestions above: Could it be that your phone is locked to a carrier outside the Telus/Koodo/PM family?

Hi @Khanadian!

As a general rule, any phone you buy must have at least 850 and 1900 3g/WCDMA bands.  Additionally, you should look for LTE bands 2, 4, 7, 1700.. more the better.

Since PM operates on the Telus network, any phones from Telus or Koodo will work with a PM sim card without unlocking.

Also, most other carrier's phones from Canada and US will also work with PM as long as they are unlocked.  Internationally bought phones, as a general rule, you should buy the North American or US model variant of the device.  The international/globla variants often is a misleading description and the North American and/or US is much more reliably compatible with Canadian carriers.

With Black Friday coming soon, you will be able to find a great deal on a new phone, so look out for sales in local stores near you as well as online.

Are you certain? https://willmyphonework.net shows that some models are compatible.

Have you tried your activated PM SIM in a different unlocked phoe?

What message do you see on the phone after rebooting with the PM SIM installed?
