Network unlock code.

How do we get the network unlock code?

30 REPLIES 30

Similar experience to mine, Rogers initially didn't believe that the phone could be locked to them but eventually were convinced enough to supply the unlock code.  FWIW Rogers and Fido both say to contact the Mobile Billing and Payment team for the code, not tech support.

Maybe another part of the message to focus on rather than the word sim is network unlock.
Not long ago I was dabbling with an old iphone that I was having all kinds of trouble with after I did a factory reset. I went to the extent of asking the known previous carrier (Rogers) to check for it being locked (after them talking to the previous owner). They weren't sure what I was asking. After some back and forth I finally got it through their heads that this is what I was asking for. Maybe the call centre is thinking of some other kind of lock. Like the blacklist or something. They kept saying words that kept me thinking they still were unclear on what I was asking. I'm sorry I don't remember what term they liked to use.

It was a no longer supported 6. I gave it to a store to recycle.

Well here I am after an extensive conversation with Fido. All has been transfered and nothing is locked. They also added that normally the "SIM network unlock PIN" is provided by the carryer that sells you the SIM card.

I'm sorry, but that is 100% wrong. Please get Fido to unlock your phone. Your phone is locked to Fido.  Public Mobile cannot give you any code that will unlock a phone that is locked to Fido.   A phone only asks for the "SIM Netowrk Unlock PIN" when a specific SIM card is inserted if the phone is locked to a different carrier.  It's not a SIM card code. In any event, the default PIN for all Public Mobile SIM cards has already been provided.

This community thing here is rediculous. Fido gave me all of their network codes. Fido said the message on my phone is SIM network lock PIN. Making this obvious that this is the PIN for the SIM card that only the carryer that sold the SIM card has. The tech lady at Fido guided me for 4 hours for that conversation with the techs here. She said that she was baffled and have never seen techs whitholding sim codes to a new customer. So lets prove ME wrong and give me my PIN codes and see how wrong I was... You guys are at it again today refusing to give codes. You are bad people and that is all there is to it.

@SlySly let's prove us wrong

if it is sim card code, take your sim card to a phone that is currently working with PM/Koodo/Telus, put it in and try. If it is really sim card pin, it will ask the PUK as well on the other phone as well

Also, prove us wrong by using an active Bell sim and test on your phone. If phone is unlocked, Bell sim would work

And prove us wrong by calling Fido, ask them for unlock code, enter it.  If you see the PM sim magically working in the phone after Fido unlock code is entered, then...

The tech said himself that in this case it was the SIM card codes that was required and they are now actively playing games not to provide them. Why would you sell sim cards then not provide the codes. It makes no sense unless someone somewhere want public mobile to fail. I might have to reach out to the president now because the techs are now actively and willingly playing games and not providing the codes they said they would provide.

SlySly
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

No. I got a response in the ticket i opened that there is effectively 2 PIN and 2 PUK code that come for each of the 2 cards that they sold me. They said they would provide all of the codes and I just had to provide the 2 sim card numbers. Then the next response where phone numbers and not the codes. They admit what I need but then they have the audacity to respond not the solution they just provided. I do not know what games these Public mobile techs are playing but the Fido chat agent as checked everything and guided all my responses to the techs here and she can not comprehend what games the techs here are playing on the new clients. Given how they have been behaving now I wonder if there just not going to hack my phone in their private personal time. This is completely rediculous. Maybe just one bad apple... Who knows. But there is no excuse for them not to provide the codes. It literally takes a couple of minutes.

@SlySly  You mentioned "SIM network unlock PIN".  Here is an article, admittedly not Canadian but still relevant, that explains how this means the phone is locked to the original carrier.  This happened to me with a Rogers phone that was not supposed to be locked since it was purchased after 2017.  Initially disbelieving, they texted me the code and then I was able to get the phone working on Public Mobile.

We're all customers here in this community forum trying to help, not employees of Public Mobile.

"woke abuse"?! wth is that?! Some kind of "fa" dog whistle or something?

Try a Bell/Virgin/Lucky or Telus/Koodo or Freedom/Shaw sim in the phone and see what happens. It would also be useful to try your sim in another phone so that you can see if the service works.

Is this a Samsung phone? If so then they can help you with any codes that the phone might be needing. Samsung had a thing a while ago where it would lock to the first sim inserted.

But you're not listening to anybody here, so deaf ears and all that.

Also, so you know, all the people responding here are fellow customers trying to help you. You've already been typing with the people that can address actual internal technical matters. All we can do is suggest.

SlySly

It is not factual because it is not locked. You keep refusing to provide the 2 SIM and the 2 PUK codes that are supposed to come with each of the 2 sim cards you sold me. That is factual. There is no reason to no give the code the codes. You are being vengeful because I close the first chat because I would not take you woke abuse. That is all there is to it at this point. Now prove me wrong and just give me the codes like I asked many time in the ticket I opened. We have been 5 hours at this. If you guys worked more efficiently and more transparently maybe we could get even better deals. You are wasting time and resources and that is costing customers.

SIM network has nothing to do with the phone.

I do not know who you are but you are responding very fast here. If you work at Public Mobile you should not be spamming misinformation on customers here. Phone is unlock it's not old enough to be locked in the first place and my accounts are spotless (everything up to date and paid for). So I would appreciate that if you are not able to help that do not post wrong information. It is not helping anyone to do so.

I do not work for Public Mobile.  However, the information I have provided is factual.  Your phone is locked to another carrier (Fido).  If you choose not to accept this informatoin, unfotuantely, nobody here will be able to assist.  I won't reply further, but you need to understand that it's your phone that is locked and not your SIM card that is locked.  That has already been proven by the fact that your device is asking for the "SIM Network Unlock PIN".  I wish you luck.

Listen up people. Any cell phone company that sells you sim cards has two 4 digit PIN numbers and 2 PUK numbers. Public mobile sells you their sim card but then gives you the run around not giving you the codes. For the life of me why are they doing this. Is it because Telus wants them to fail and have clients switching over to Telus... Rediculous.

I'm sorry you feel this way, but you're getting upset with the wrong company. The company that has wronged you is Fido.

Your phone isn't asking for the SIM card's PIN or PUK.  I have provided the SIM card's PIN, but as I advised earlier, don't try that because it wont' work.  The SIM Network UNlock PIN isn't the same as the SIM card's PIN or PUK. It's a sepearte matter.  OInly Fido (and sometime sthe phone manufactuer) can provide you with the SIM Netowrk Unlock PIN (which is commonly referred to as the unlock code).

SlySly

What do you not understand. The phones are not lock. However physical SIM cards come with 2 PIN numbers and Public Network is not giving me the 2 PIN codes that comes with the SIM card they sold me. So stop telling me the phone is locked when I now know it is not.

they gave me all of their possible network codes we tryed them all. Now I am at 8 out of 10. So the tech at public mobile have to sort this out but so far the techs here are just responding about anything but giving me the PIN number. They say try your sim card on another phone. I dont have another phone... And i can read. It is asking for SIM network PIN and the current sim car in the phone is the public mobile sim car.

As I and others have mentioned, please get this from Fido. Nobody here can give you an unlock code for a phone that is locked to Fido.  This "PIN" isn't for your Public Mobile SIM card.  It's an unlock code so that you can use your phone with a non-Fido/non-Rogers SIM card and you would need this code from Fido even if you inserted any non-Rogers/non-Fido SIM card.

My advice when dealing with Fido would be to not to use any phrases such as "SIM network unlock PIN",  "PIN", or "PUK" references.  Just say that you need your phone unlocked. They will understand that.

Your SIM card's PIN is 1234, but do NOT try using that because it won't work.  Your phone isn't asking for your SIM card's PIN. It's asking for the network unlock code so that you can use the Public Mobile SIM.  Your phone is still locked to Fido.

Unfortunatley, you're believing the wrong people.  All of the information given to by Fido is incorrect.  They should know better. Your phone is locked to Fido.  Nobody here or at Public Mobile can give you the SIM Network Unlock PIN for your phone as it is lcoked to Fido.  Fido needs to provide that.

I opened a ticking simply asking to provide the network PIN number for the SIM card they sold me. The technical departement is giving me the run around instead if just providing the PIN. Now I am at 8 of 10 allowable tries. Nobody is actually helping. I can now say I will never recommend public mobile but still willing to be a customer. But how can you be a customer if they are network blocking you and not responding to resolve it.

Fido is giving you fale information.  Your phone is absolutely locked to them. Keep calling until you get someone who provides proper infromation.  SIM Network Unlock PIN is certainly not provided by the carrier who sold you the SIM card that you are true to use. In fact, it actually means that you can't use this SIM in the phone because it's locked to a different carrier (by a different carrier). Unfortuntaely, nobody at Public Mobile can help you with this. This is 100% a Fido issue (if that's where you were using the phone before).

HI @SlySly if you still have the Fido unlock cod, you can enter it again

if not, call them and ask again

That means the phone is locked.

Network Unlock Code

SlySly
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Your response makes no sense... I am sorry... My phone is not locked. It is the network that is locked.

Hi @SlySly

it should not get locked again.

Call Fido and ask them again, they owe you

or you can try your PM sim card in another phone, maybe what you saw was the error for sim card lock and not device network lock

SlySly
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I allready made sure with Fido that the phone was unlocked before initiating the transfer. It is the network that is locked for not apparent reason.

What's the exact message the phone is giving?

If you're getting "SIM network PIN blocked. Enter SIM network PUK." on a Samsung phone then you can call Samsung at 1-800-726-7864 and they will give you a code to unlock it. They'll want the IMEI of the phone in question.

If any of "SIM network unlock PIN", "SIM ME lock code NP", "SIM not Supported", "SIM locked", "Network Unlock Code", "SIM PUK code", "Network Control Key", "Master Unlock Code", "Network PIN" means that the phone is locked to a previous provider. You'll need to contact them to unlock the phone.

If any of "PIN unlock key (PUK)", "Enter PUK Your SIM cannot be accessed", "Locked SIM" then that can be helped by contacting support https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

@SlySly you can only get it if you got the phone from PM or Telus or Koodo, you can message them:

       https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

But if you got the phone from another carrier, you have to go back and ask that carrier
