Have moved the sim to a used pixel but the pin number I used before doesn't unlock the phone. How can I get in or override?

For a Samsung phone asking for a PUK on Public Mobile, you need either the SIM PUK from Public Mobile (via SIMon chatbot/ticket) or the phone's master unlock code from Samsung support (1-800-726-7864), depending on the exact message; check your original SIM packaging for the SIM PUK first, then contact PM support if it's a SIM issue, or Samsung if it's a "SIM network PIN blocked" error.
If the chatbot doesn't work, here's the direct link.
